On this day in 1920, a Czechoslovak Jewish woman was born. On the 7 May 1942 she was deported to Theresienstadt with her parents and sister and then on the 9 May 1942 to Sobibór where she was murdered. Her name was Eva Kohnová Support @sobibor.org

ECHR
Sir, In dangerous times, serious countries do not retreat into splendid isolation. They build alliances, multiply their influence and strengthen institutions. Key among those is the 46-member Council of Europe, at its heart the European Convention on Human Rights.As former independent reviewers of terrorism legislation we have seen at close quarters that the ECHR is not just a human rights instrument. It is a national security asset. Terrorist networks, hostile states, organised crime gangs and people smugglers do not respect borders. Tackling them requires arrangements for the closest possible co-operation with our neighbours, including through joint investigations and police access to European passenger, fingerprint, DNA and vehicle data.These arrangements expressly depend on internationally agreed human rights standards, applied by a supranational court. We detect no political willingness to excuse the UK from compliance with standards to which the rest of Europe already subscribes. As authoritarian powers grow more aggressive and democratic institutions face mounting pressure, Britain should not be abandoning one of its greatest postwar achievements.
The question is not whether we can afford to remain within the ECHR. It is whether, in an increasingly perilous world, we can afford not to.

2 October 1934 | A Jewish girl, Klara Weisz, was born in Milan. A daughter of Arpad Weisz, a Hungarian Jewish football player and coach. In October 1942, she was deported to Auschwitz and murdered in a gas chamber with her mother and brother. Arpad perished in the camp in January 1944.

On this day in 1929, a Czech Jewish girl was born. On the 10 Jun 1942 she was deported with her parents via Ujazdów to Sobibor, where they were murdered. Of the 1000 on the transport only 3 survived. Her brother perished in Auschwitz in Sep 1943. Her name was Helena Weissová

2 October 1942 | A transport of 210 Jews deported from #Drancy in occupied France arrived at #Auschwitz. After the arrival selection, 34 men & 22 women were registered in the camp (none survived). The remaining 154 people were murdered in a gas chamber. Salomea Strul was among them.
