BTW, the absurd costs referred to private engagements, and I'm sticking to my claim. The fee was 10% of hard costs, governed by Std Form of Contract, Document 600. It was the lowest of a three-firm competitive process. "Not a chance", you say? Disagree, based on actual experience (2/2).

Glad that concessions are being made by folks like you on public projects - it's in your profession's interest to create great design in the public realm. That's why I argued for lower fees & pro bono on public commissions. I'll keep an eye out for those 1% jobs you're claiming are standard (1/2).

I've engaged them & paid their typical fee structure for a multi-million $$$ contract. The total paid over the life of the project was exorbitant IMO. No law of the universe precludes architects from doing pro bono. If an association has prohibited it, it can also permit it with the stroke of a pen.

The canopy & windows destroyed it. It's incumbent on architects to instill in the general public an appreciation for good design, or the profession will die. Do this via high-profile public commissions. Lower your absurd fees & do pro bono work (lawyers do), so governments can afford better design.
