I see that Iranians are getting acquainted with the segment of the western left that believes that only massacres committed by US allies are bad. The way they're gaslighting victims while criticizing those who were doing the same elsewhere...Exactly the same as their right-winger counterparts.

"A Dialogue on AI and Data Governance When the World is Watching—a Deliberation with Early-Career Researchers"

In this interactive workshop, early-stage researchers (ESRs) take the stage to present their cutting-edge work on AI and data governance—ranging from regulatory divergence and risk-based oversight to algorithmic transparency and ethical concerns. Further, renowned experts will explore the challenges and opportunities for ESRs to engage in the global digital regulatory space.
Bringing together voices from research, policy, and practice, the session invites participants to actively engage in discussions that bridge theory and implementation. With experts from academia, industry, civil society, and EU institutions in the room, this workshop offers a unique space for dialogue on the future of responsible and evidence-based digital governance in the EU and beyond.

SFI Summit 2022: Delaram Golpayegani (TCD) 'Ontology for Representing AI Risks based on EU’s AI Act'
PhD candidate, Delaram Golpayegan (TCD), presents a research poster on 'AIRO: An Ontology for Representing AI Risks Based on EU’s AI Act and ISO 31000 Family of Standards'. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) can involve critical risks as shown by multiple cases where AI has negatively affected health, safety and fundamental rights of people. AI risk management aims to minimise this risk by considering the potential negative impacts that an AI system might have on businesses, as well as individuals, groups and society. In this presentation, they introduce the AI Risk Ontology (AIRO) for expressing information associated with (AI) risk management based on the requirements of the EU’s AI Act proposal and ISO 31000 series of standards. AIRO assists stakeholders in determining ‘high-risk’ AI systems, maintaining and documenting risk information, performing impact assessments, and achieving conformity with AI regulations.

How can semantic web technologies assist in identifying 'high-risk' AI systems and producing technical documentation defined by the AI Act? We (w/ @coolharsh55 @dave_e_lewis) investigated this in:Ontology: w3id.org/AIRO zenodo.org/record/6821845

AIRO: an Ontology for Representing AI Risks based on the Proposed EU AI Act and ISO Risk Management Standards
The growing number of incidents caused by (mis)using Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a matter of concern for governments, organisations, and the public. To control the harmful impacts of AI, multiple efforts are being taken all around the world from guidelines promoting trustworthy development and use, to standards for managing risks and regulatory frameworks. Amongst these efforts, the first-ever AI regulation proposed by the European Commission, known as the AI Act, is prominent as it takes a risk-oriented approach towards regulating development and use of AI within systems. In this paper, we present the AI Risk Ontology (AIRO) for expressing information associated with high-risk AI systems based on the requirements of the proposed AI Act and ISO 31000 series of standards. AIRO assists stakeholders in determining `high-risk' AI systems, maintaining and documenting risk information, performing impact assessments, and achieving conformity with AI regulations. To show its usefulness, we model existing real-world use-cases from the AIAAIC repository of AI-related risks, determine whether they are high-risk, and produce documentation for the EU's proposed AI Act.
