I reprocessed this image from my dwarf mini a couple weeks ago, using better darks, and it turned out MUCH better. I also threw out half the data to make sure only the best frames were getting in. The data thrown out were mostly due to clouds. #astrophotography.

The Cosmic Checkmark Nebula is comprised a latge elongated molecular cloud (LBN 534) and the reflection nebula (VdB 158) lies in a dusty starry region in Andromeda. It is ~ 35 light years in length. (per Wiki) Exposure 6 hrs over several sessions, updated 09/02/26 #astronomy #astrophotography

When in the southern hemisphere at certain times of the year, we can see the whole shape of the Milky Way galaxy across the entire sky. The bright central core where the stars are most concentrated is right overhead. From Namibia, Africa using an 8mm fish eye lens. #astrophotography #astronomy

Disclaimer: I like smartscopes. But, will modular setups be replaced by them in #astrophotography? Maybe. If I had to guess, not soon. Below is a comparison. On the left is 1 five minute sub in Ha with a fast Newtonian and 5nm filter. On the right is 1 hour from a smart telescope and duo filter.

I took this image of the Sadr region with a Canon 85mm portrait lens attached to my 294MM (other images cropped from original). 16 hours of Ha combined with about 2 hours of RGB. It is undersampled at 2x drizzle, but it still made a ~180 Megapixel image! #astrophotography @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

DwarfLabs sent me the Dwarf Mini to review. I put 44 hours into the NA Nebula. When I started my #astrophotography channel, videos were about AstroSharp. Dwarf users told me it worked well on their data. Now using a smart scope, I can see where they wwere coming from! @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

I started my #astrophotography channel by publishing videos about AstroSharp, a free neural network sharpening tool I developed. It can now be used in SiriL. The Windows tool got some updates too. It may not be the best, but I think it does a decent job for a lightweight NN. youtu.be/WIL1osnmRkg

I took this of the Tulip Nebula last summer with my C8 in HaRGB. I was afraid to process it because the collimation was off, and the stars were bloated. After a year, I got some courage, and processed it in Siril, Gimp, AstroSharp and G'Mic. #astrophotography @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

This is a screenshot of a 5 minute sub in Ha taken with an 85mm lens. It's attached to my ZWO 294MM pro with a special adapter that allows me to control autofocus and aperture in kstars. Can't wait to process this :) #astrophotography

Just thinking about how much time it would take me to get this image from a Bortle 6-7 zone where I live, and I estimate that it would take somewhere between 20-40 hours. And even then, the fainter dust might be unrecoverable. Light pollution is a real pain. #astrophotography.

I tried capturing Rho Ophiuchi untracked with an 85mm lens and unmodded T4i under Bortle 3ish skies to see what I could get. With around 600 5-second exposures, it's far from perfect, but not bad either, imo. #astrophotography @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social Processed in Sequator, Siril, Gimp

Hi everyone. I just realized there is a bug in the sub-length calculator code. If you're not using unity gain, then the Min.Sub2 estimates will be off (and some others). The Sub Optimization stuff is still correct. But, I'm going to update the app later today and send out a fix. Sorry about that!

Basically, you load a dark/bias frame, and a light frame, input your camera's bit-depth, e-/ADU based on gain, and light frame's sub exposure time in seconds, and it does the rest.
