If deep-sea mining cannot demonstrate a clear public benefit even before environmental costs are considered, there is no economic justification for exposing the deep ocean to irreversible harm. A moratorium is the economically responsible choice. #DefendTheDeep dsm.koinon.consulting/headlines/
A poster by the Deep Sea Conservation Coalition features the text: "No public benefit. No justification for irreversible harm." It questions deep-sea mining's benefits versus environmental costs, with a background image of a pink sea star and a checkmark icon. A new independent economic analysis finds the promise of economic prosperity from deep-sea mining does not stand up to scrutiny. "Case Not Proven: The Economics of Deep-Sea Mining" stress-tests the industry’s economic projections against the risks associated with major frontier resource projects.
An industrial marine vessel from The Metals Company is positioned on the ocean, featuring large drilling equipment. The text discusses broken promises about ocean floor mining's economic benefits, questioning industry projections against real risks.

The image features a message from the Deep Sea Conservation Coalition. Text in bold reads, "Deep-sea mining fails the economic test." Additional text states that independent analysis suggests the industry is more likely to destroy economic value than create it. An illustration of a sea angel is included at the bottom.

The new Ocean Protection Gap Report finds ~10% of the ocean is designated protected/conserved, but just 3.5% is effectively protected 🌊 Protecting seamounts could safeguard 21% of the global seabed. If we’re serious about 30×30, the UN Bottom Fisheries Review must turn commitments into action.
