Wow! I was nearly certain that that was a fake tweet, but it appears to be real! It still felt like things were still bending towards justice in 2015 so I wonder what he saw.

Does AIPAC represent all Jewish Americans or just a specific set of policies and candidates that many Democrats (including many Jewish Americans) don't subscribe to anymore?

How is it possible that no one was covering Natalie until this book came out? How are we just learning about her nearly 2 years into this administration?

I'm confused. Where does Ossoff say anything scandalous about Natalie? I only see that he says she travels with Trump, which seems like an objective fact.

Article I, Section 5, Clause 2 of the Constitution defines criteria for removing a member. Being unable to do the job is only a factor if 67 Senators think it's relevant.

There's a crazy answer to your question.
111
Matt @deeply-stated.bsky.social · 12/07/2026
Yeah, that's extremely significant. A swing (Trump to Clinton) of as few as 22k votes in PA, 12k votes in WI, and 6k votes in MI would have changed the outcome. That's 40k (or 0.04M) total votes. Far less than than the 12.6M people FB's average conversion rate would suggest.
100
Matt @deeply-stated.bsky.social · 12/07/2026
Facebook's average conversion rate on ads is much, much higher than 0.03%, coming in at around 9%, and even in its lowest converting sectors (eg automotive hardware) they still convert 0.37%. So, the base assumption should be that FB ads would have converted 100x the 2016 election margin.

Smooth long swells are manageable when you're awake and staying perpendicular to them, but if you fall asleep and get parallel to some big choppy waves in a boat that is very narrow, it's easy to roll. I rowed in high school on rivers and got rolled twice by hard wakes.
Most sailors would be surprised at the minimal wave height needed to roll a boat. Andrew Claughton writes in Adlard Coles’ Heavy Weather Sailing, “During the model tests that were carried out to investigate the problem, when the breaking wave was 30 percent of the hull length high, from trough to crest, it could capsize some yachts, while waves to a height of 60 percent of the hull length comfortably overwhelm all the boats we tested.” So, the starting point for a breaking wave to be dangerous to rolling a boat is one that is only 30 percent high as the boat is long.

Breaking waves normally develop only when something opposes the movement of wind-driven waves, causing them to rise up like waves on a beach. As they get higher and steeper, the crest of the wave becomes unstable and begins to collapse down its face, just as happens with a surfing wave. Boats pitchpoling or rolling is almost always associated with breaking waves.

Whitecaps or cresting foam and whitewater do not constitute a danger to a well-found boat. But breaking waves change the situation completely. Your boat may be more or less susceptible to rolling than other boats based on its design, but the aspects to remember are that although your boat may be severely tilted over by the wave, for the wave to knock the boat down or completely roll over all the below need to happen at the same time:

Wave height must exceed 30% of the yacht length or must match the beam of the boat (risk of knock-down and rolling)
The boat needs to be broadside or oblique to the wave
The boat needs to be struck by a breaking wave: unless the wave is breaking, the boat should ride up and over the wave regardless of the wave height in comparison to the boat length and the boat’s orientation to the wave
When the wave height reaches 50% of the boat length, there is a high probability of capsizing, with more than 60% the boat is going to be capsized every time! (of course only if broadsided and with breaking waves).

Like, it's kind of crazy how explicit the FHA guidelines were. Giving one racial group exclusive aid in accessing better economic opportunities and assets that have generated immense inheritable value perpetuates the segregation in a facially neutral way. It sucks!

Obama's deal (the JCPOA, joint chief's plan of action) didn't block missile R&D. It did block importing missile technology, but we couldn't get them to agree to binding prohibitions of missile R&D.

The JCPOA (2015) did not directly prohibit Iran's missile research and development, but it was accompanied by UN Security Council Resolution 2231. This resolution "called upon" Iran to refrain from activities related to ballistic missiles designed to be nuclear-capable for eight years, a restriction that expired in October 2023.
The Washington Institute
The Washington Institute
 +2
No Direct Prohibition: The JCPOA itself was focused exclusively on restricting Iran's nuclear program, not its conventional missile program.
UNSCR 2231 Restrictions: Annex B of UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorsed the JCPOA, included language restricting ballistic missile activities.
"Called Upon" vs. "Prohibited": The phrasing in the resolution ("called upon" rather than "shall not") was interpreted by some as less than a legally binding prohibition.
Sunset Clause: The restrictions on ballistic missile activities and related technology transfers, along with conventional arms restrictions, expired in October

Why did Trump's performance with Hispanic male voters improve so much from 2020 to 2024 given Trump's promises to indiscriminately harass Hispanic-looking people? People who pay attention vote. People who can but don't vote aren't really paying attention, and would vote on absurd vibes.

Matt @deeply-stated.bsky.social · 09/03/2026
No thank you. Most Americans don't pay attention to National news or politics. In 2020, everyone knew Trump was the President during COVID and that it was going bad. In 2024, the vibes were different, so low info voters would be voting on those 2024 vibes and the swing would have been even worse.

Most agencies have policies requiring chases to be discontinued if the chase becomes the greater risk to the public. Some of the 18k law enforcement agencies in The US are backwards on chasing (cough Alabama), but most major agencies are getting this right.

LLMs are transformer-based AI. You should check out this book; it's very approachable (well, to data scientists/engineers). You'd appreciate seeing how LLMs capture so much of the signal encoded in language. Claude is a massive aid in coding so LLMs aren't going away and are worth understanding.

Yeah. $2,176B in income taxes were collected in 2023. $1.3B in back taxes is only 0.06% of 2023's income tax revenue. Maybe it would have increased nonlinearly as the IRS grew, but 0.06% is ... underwhelming.

What a rude and incorrect determination. And as a data scientist who has also worked in fraud detection, I know the detection methods have improved a lot in the past quarter century.
In January of 2001, Javier and his Internet staff completed their first redesign of the Website after taking responsibility for the “look and feel” of the Website.

Also in 2001, the first online claims application – for retirement benefits – was launched. Although it had been in planning stages for some months, its launch was hastened by then-Acting Commissioner Bill Halter, who wanted the online application implemented as soon as possible.

At present, the law states Trump has absolute immunity to order the assassination of his political opponents and of any prosecutors who pursue his assassins. Law in the US has been captured and corrupted. We need to build public support for a deep, durable reformation of the courts and their power.

I can't really wrap my head around the speed at which he has accumulated wealth. It's wild that Tesla's market cap is 6x Toyota's, but that volatility makes it pretty easy to buy low and sell high, so more people buy in. Unless the price is going to 0, more volatility is just a benefit to Elon.
Elon Musk was first listed on the Forbes Billionaires List in 2012, around 75% of Musk's wealth was derived from Tesla stock in November 2020. By December 2024, he became the first person to reach a net worth of $400 billion.

NYTimes, why use the meaningless phrase "defying legal limits" when you could use something clear like "illegal" or "unconstitutional" or "inconsistent with the law"? Why not just state the reported facts clearly? The truth is an absolute defense, and we'll need it desperately going forward.

It's the extra stuff in URLs before & after the actual URL. For example, if you copy a link from Google results, it will look like this. I put brackets around the URL for the actual resource and the rest of the stuff is just junk to help Google track info on who uses the link, device metadata, etc.

It's never resolved that Bateman actually killed people. The alternate interpretation was that Bateman's insecurity about lacking identity drove dissociation from reality and violent fantasies against the world that wouldn't recognize and laud him. Either way, maga hat celebrates Bateman.

Yeah, after an extremely costly civil war that killed 2% of the entire population, the United States even passed an amendment to keep anti-American thugs from getting access to the levers of power. Trump recognized that law is just a way to sanitize raw, unaccountable use of power.
Fourteenth Amendment Equal Protection and Other Rights
Section 3 Disqualification from Holding Office
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

Dang, I made a significant typo in that. It should have been "Far more Dems voted against it then Repubs voted against it". This passed with overwhelming bipartisan support. In the majority GOP House, 50 Dems voted against it and only 15 repubs voted against it. Senate: 3 Dem & 15 rep against.

Do you know how apps/sites work? A client device (via a browser) sends requests+metadata+(whatever else the app is programmed to send) to a server, which handles the request she can do anything with the data, like let China mine it. Congress passed this law because of the demonstrated risk.

Yes, the fact that the speech isn't punished is doing heavy lifting. The law even permits TikTok (an extremely censored platform) to continue operating if ByteDance divested ownership, but ByteDance refused to divest.

I don't see how any State's AG could establish standing in a federal court, and Trump's own AG isn't going to sue Trump for not enforcing it.
standing
Standing, or locus standi , is the capacity of a party to bring a lawsuit in court. To have standing, a party must demonstrate a sufficient connection to and harm from the law or action being challenged .

Standing in State Court
A state’s statutes will determine what constitutes standing in that particular state’s courts. These typically revolve around the requirement that plaintiffs have sustained or will sustain direct injury or harm and that this harm is redressable.

Standing in Federal Court
At the federal level, legal actions cannot be brought simply because an individual or group is displeased with a government action or law. Federal courts only have constitutional authority to resolve actual disputes (see controversy ).

In Lujan v. Defenders of Wildlife (90-1424), 504 U.S. 555 (1992) , the Supreme Court created a three-part test to determine whether a party has standing to sue:

Injury in Fact : The plaintiff must have suffered an “injury in fact,” meaning that the injury is of a legally protected interest which is (a) concrete and particularized and (b) actual or imminent.

Causal Connection : There must be a causal connection between the injury and the conduct brought before the court.
Redressability : It must be likely, rather than speculative, that a favorable decision by the court will redress the injury.
