The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption.

The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. #NoDeathPenalty

Everything that is good begins “with the Spirit” and thus possesses a breath, a dynamism and a sense of communion that, once experienced, are engraved upon the heart.

Intelligence must draw on memory. The mind must not simply compile data — as an algorithm now does more quickly than we can — but recall lived experiences, which contain depths of meaning that only the human soul can recognize, and connect more deeply with the goodness of these experiences.

Families participate in the Church’s mission in the ordinary fabric of their lives, through love and fidelity, care and forgiveness, the education of children, their efforts in transmitting faith, attention to the elderly and the vulnerable, and the many ways...

Such an attitude will greatly help humanity, especially young people, to discover the ability of art to uplift and reveal the depths of the human spirit and our openness to the divine. Contemplation presents a marvelous opportunity to encounter the God who is Beauty.

In an age dominated by technology, in which efficiency and profit often take precedence, it is so important that we continue to cultivate a spirit of contemplation and allow time and space for beauty.

The logic of profit at all costs and the manipulation of information risk exerting undue pressure on people to conform to a lifestyle centred on the consumption of material goods, but our hearts are made to look upwards. #GeneralAudience

The first mission of the Church is to help people be attentive to the profound questions of life: those concerning our origin and our destiny, as well as those concerning the meaning of love and suffering.

True love is a gift from God, and we cannot simply create it ourselves. Whereas human love is often tainted by selfish desires, God’s love, on the other hand, is selfless, long-suffering, patient and possesses all the wonderful qualities that Paul lists in his Letter to the Corinthians (1 Cor 13).

Doing good does not always receive recognition and often requires effort, but this is the daily courage of charity. Friendship with Jesus Christ gives us the strength to live this way.

Da Pope @deepdishpapa.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Our age needs men and women who have the courage to do good even when it comes at a cost. Draw close to those who are alone, support those who are weary, and seek out those who have drifted away. Have the courage to forgive, to begin again, and to engage in dialogue.

There exists a martyrdom of those who offer their lives in a single moment, and the more hidden martyrdom of those who give their lives day after day. This is exactly what all Christians are called to do: to give our lives with love, every day.

I would like to share some thoughts on my recent #ApostolicJourney to #France with the motto “That the world may have life” (cf. Jn 6:51). God alone, through his grace, can restore the Church and renew humanity, and this is precisely what is occurring in Paris, Lourdes and Metz. 1/2

Europe as we know it, with its spiritual and moral heritage, is rooted in the lives and work of men and women who lived, preached, and shared the teachings of the Gospel. From this heritage, the moral foundations of the world in which we live have been handed down to us: 1/2

We cannot speak of #Europe without mentioning Christianity. Robert Schuman was well aware of this when he stated: “Christianity has taught that all people are equal by nature, children of the same God, redeemed by the same Christ, without distinction of race, colour, class, or profession. 1/2

The #GospelOfTheDay is a call to conversion, both tender and urgent. God wants us to live, to open our eyes, and return to Him. To repent is to leave the paths on which we lost our way, and to follow the Way of Life, opening our hearts to the sole joy that never fades.
