Maybe because he has a very strict dad, because of that strictness it seems that his dad view friends as obstacles having not getting the attention from his dad lead Azuma to grow an obsession with success and perfection, and the wheel chair seems to symbolize a disability stem from that obsession

Chapter 58.3 implies that though Tokio and Azuma are friend, they never hang out at Azuma’s house (at the very least while Tokio talk about Azuma a lot with his family, it appears that Azuma never get the chance, or perhaps, doesn’t want his family to know that he has a friend for some reasons

In fact my theory is that after Azuma done it Vlad, Batista will steal his power when he couldn’t keep fighting and therefore making himself a choujin X, or the dark calamity These panels foreshadow each main three’s action when things get worse, Azuma went straight to danger rather than run away
