I Quit OpenAI Because Its Culture Is Broken
The industry’s approach to safety will guarantee more failures unless something changes.

But if the people whose job is to slow the company down are too busy to change how it works, leaving just makes the sprint lighter. I keep waiting for one of these essays where someone tried the inside version and can say what actually blocked it.

Here's the part I don't get, and he raises it himself: maybe he should have stayed and fought for the staffing and the culture. His reason for not doing so is that everyone was sprinting, so there was rarely time to consider a big change, let alone make one.

His essay makes the familiar case: a culture built on sprints and trial and error won't survive a failure you can't iterate out of. So he's going to work on the incentives from the outside.

David Robinson quit OpenAI this week. He led the safety reports for its major launches, led the drafting of the current Preparedness Framework, and after three and a half years was one of the longest-tenured people there.

"If it is a walk in the park, anybody could do it." The single most important founder skill Jensen named was not vision. It was his ability to suffer.

Since when does Claude Code compact a session on its own.. while it's just sitting idle, waiting for me to come back? 🤔 I'm not convinced I want this to happen.
A dark text box displays a note about session compaction occurring while idle, suggesting a technical issue or feature.

1960: The Year The Singularity Was Cancelled

In 1960, a scientist calculated that humanity would hit a singularity on Friday, November 13, 2026. That’s six weeks from now. He might have been closer than anyone thought.

Claude: "My rough estimate: 1–2 days for the d.ts, the subpath, a sample tsconfig and a type-level test." Me: "Okay okay, see you in 15 minutes." Has anyone found a good skill or prompt to teach it that it's not a human dev anymore?

“Alignment as we think of it or need it, is not arriving.” That’s Nadella after the agent-swarm scares. A DevOps misconfig is something you can patch. Swarms doing deceptive action is a very different thing: where did that come from in training? We need to understand that. 👀
