dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 28/09/2026The hand-wringing is far more depressing than someone bouncing off. 160
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 28/09/2026The problem with arrows is that they don't convey motion (not that numpad notation does either). qcf etc does, but then you have to know what those letters stand for. At some point you just kinda need to want to know. 100
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 28/09/2026It has two problems imo. 1: reading motion inputs is a pain. 2: chatters cannot help themselves and will type numpad notation in chat to complete beginners as if it doesn't look like insanity. 120
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 25/09/2026The liches are getting lazy. In my youth each dead end would at least have a trap door! 010
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I think a good 80% of things that make you grumpy the first time you play a game go away if you take a break. You come back and realize all the stuff you weren't doing, or the mistakes you kept repeating. 020
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Was this sort of thing common? From my (swedish) perspective you'd have to do something really crazy for a high school teacher to tell you not to do an art. 101
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 18/09/2026They already have a game out called Rusted Moss with the same concept. I haven't looked into it because I want to go in unspoiled, but I think this is a sequel. 120
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Even with Modern you won't be able to play one-handed eyyy ...and also, the execution doesn't really change too much. Modern just locks you out of some of the coolest stuff... 110
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I'm conflicted. I want to make a stupid joke response, but my fighting game-addled brain wants to warn about the high execution. 120

Reposted by @dectilon.bsky.socialDominic Tarason @dominictarason.com · 15/09/2026Oooh, was just informed that Zexion is the cheapest its been yet. Fantastic retro Metroid'y thing by Metroid sickos for Metroid sickos. It is oppressive, dark, claustrophobic, hostile, and the boss fights are intense and have Contra-style 8-way aiming. It has some of my fave bosses in YEARS. 69336
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 14/09/2026You're right; I meant more in the sense of having a clearly hostile mechanic, like "solving" a puzzle and getting crushed as a result, or the fact that puzzles will be hard. As long as you know how things are going to be you can appreciate them instead of being frustrated with them. Hopefully! 010

dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 14/09/2026...but I also really like how you can pick up any old trash off the ground in Dark Souls and beat the game with it. That's also cool. 030
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 14/09/2026I feel like I'm perfectly split down the middle on this. I loved Nine Sols and how you're always pushed to the edge of your abilities. The sense of flow it induces, and manages to continue to induce over the course of the game, is fantastic to me... 130
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Really forward to ESA2 by the way! ESA is my favorite metroidvania and I need more of those immaculate vibes. 000
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 14/09/2026I had an idea while reading about the fact that having the world be one big continuous room might cause performance issues: What if it was divided into screens, but you had a camera item you could throw across screens or into holes. It feels like you could do all sorts of cool things with that. 200
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 14/09/2026I can only speak from intuition since I've not actually made any games, but I feel like it's far more important to manage expectations than to avoid things like being trapped. As long as you know how things are going to be from the start you can put up with a lot. La Mulana is a good example I think 200
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 13/09/2026If a game offers me a standard control scheme for, say, a platformer I almost always switch buttons right away. If a game gives me a seemingly wacky scheme I usually let it rock for a while because they may be cooking. Though not always. Nioh 3 was not cooking for example... 1120
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 13/09/2026It's funny because the "modern", "sensible" controls you start out with become laughably insufficient as the game goes on, and by the end you have to master weird gravity slingshot controls to survive. 020
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 13/09/2026You can approach it in different ways too. Zexion has much "modern" controls starting out, but it's also much more hostile, and as the game goes on you get stranger and stranger powers, and the world matches the strangeness. By the end you feel like a weird space-monster yourself. 250
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 13/09/2026The friction is what makes it feel so awesome when you get a new thing. In a lot of games it doesn't have much more impact than "oh, I can reach blue ledges now". And I don't even think it works for every game, but "exploring hostile planet" is a perfect fit. 1284
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Eh, a starcraft shooter sounds alright to me? Probably won't remember it exists until it comes out though. 010
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 12/09/2026The retcon was not done in a very Deadpool way, it just seemed like the writer hated the previous writer's ideas. 130
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 12/09/2026I remember reading a Deadpool arc that, in the very next issue after it ended, got retconned by the incoming writer in a single textbox. Not exactly the same thing, but similar energy. 120
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Direktöversättning blir nästan aldrig bra. Verkligen ambitionsnivå noll. "Resning" blir ju inte ens korrekt. 010
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 12/09/2026The only one I've seen is Shadowman, and it seemed like it turned out pretty good. At least with that example it seemed like they have an idea of how to preserve the original visual landscape. 011
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 11/09/2026No joke, that's just the trope done slightly better than normal. 120
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Love me a good Abyss! An unreasonably deep descent is just so evocative. 010
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 10/09/2026I was sort of expecting her to be grabbing for the last few leaves in the last panel. 130
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 09/09/2026I still think it was the hardest early on; at least as far as traversing areas goes. It's a lot more consistent than most metroidvanias though. It stays consistently interesting. 100
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 08/09/2026I'm really bad at melty, but I will still say that trying to fight Len feels like trying to stop a lathe with your hand. 130
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Arjun looks cool as hell and I think I will hate fighting him. A negative edge projectile that covers your command grab isn't something I expected to see in a street fighter-game. 011
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Ah, to be a Riot founder and have your only real job be to occasionally say "fuck it, we ball" and do finger guns... 0150
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Yeah, but if TGA nominated, say, a hockey game for it I wouldn't be *that* surprised. It's not a mistake someone who gave a shit would make. 050
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 05/09/2026This is what the stream-watchers have been warning about! This is what happens when you don't remember to drink water! 000
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Bond-villain is also a possible career-path. 000
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 03/09/2026A big cool thing is that stats don't just improve dull numbers, like damage and defense. Increasing dex makes you actually jump higher and able to get to new places. Magic is also really varied in what it lets you do. Make lights, feed plants blood, spawn infinite coffins... 020
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 03/09/2026It's frustrating in the right ways. Darkness, curses and confusion makes it tense to explore, but instant kill-stuff is extremely rare. I died quite a bit, but never without knowing why, which was what I was worried about when I first started playing. Controls well, didn't encounter any bugs etc. 110
dectilon.bsky.social @dectilon.bsky.social · 03/09/2026I bought it a good time ago, but I finally played and finished Lunacid. I've not played any of the King's Field games, and I realize this is quite different, but I like the style quite a bit. 130
