ai could never make me stop drawing, i'm entirely too addicted to the moment when the colour palette is making sense and the lighting is starting to sing and all i have to do is render it up 🤸

I've been doing live streams on YouTube! Here are some animals I've sketched, suggested by viewers 😊 Of course they all have names, these are Ridge Bana the Goanna, Tali the Tiger and Ophelia the Opossum #illustration #sketchbook #drawing #characterdesign #picturebook #picturebookartist

I tagged these as nsfw only because of the nudity, but now they have been marked as explicit 😐 which they are not. I just thought most work places didn't want nudity 🤷‍♀️

I'm so interested in the way influencers hold products close to their faces. The little tappy fingers. Tiny rotational shakes. Hold the bottle close. We're so happy. It's fascinating.

Some beachy sketch explorations! These trees live along the coast where I am, they're so interestingly shaped 🌲🌊 #visualdevelopment #animationdesign #illustration #drawing #conceptart #illustrator #digitalart #sketchbook #artstudy

Digital sketches with black lines and dark grey flat colour on a medium grey background. 5 Norfolk pine tree sketches that are drawn with very flowing, thin shapes. Some are tall and sparse with long thin limbs stretching to the side, one is bushy and suddenly flat at the top. One of the drawings shows 3 trees which have grown together, blending their silhouettes into one shape.

Three digital sketches, each showing the same drawing with a slight variation, on a grey background. Each drawing shows a beach cliff headland with houses lit in the evening. The top has a shallow, sloping cliff face. The middle has a slightly more vertical cliff face, while the lowest has the tallest, steepest cliff face.

I did some sketching while visiting the zoo last weekend! Someone came up and complimented them 😭🥰 #art #sketch #pencil #wildlife #artstudies #drawing #illustration #characterdesign

A sketchbook page showing pencil sketches of giraffes and meercats with silly facial expressions. The giraffe's have long slender necks and sideways glances, while the meercats are plump and sitting down. The book is held in front of an out of focus giraffe enclosure at a zoo.

Close on a sketchbook showing drawings of a blocky tortoise with a wide eyed expression, a frog sitting tightly facing away from us, a python coiled into a pile, and a frog sitting on the other side surface of a glass pane.

Close on the meercat sketches from image 1.

Ok so here's what happened with my #hourlycomicsday. 😅 I had a very fun and very busy day at the zoo. Sketched up some fun comics! Could not ink them on the day, so I'm doing that today and will share them here soon 😬 I think I 'hourly comics on a saturday'd too close to the sun

since the little arrows are covering some parts: in image 2 it says "the air con's on really gently" and in image 3 it says "kinda falling apart"

Oh for sure, I definitely think the tablet is great on it's own! Artists can have entire careers using only a tablet. No worries, I hope some of my thoughts were helpful 😅

2️⃣ maybe a more high contrast medium could help, like ink brush pens or charcoal pencils? Or for the tablet, maybe drawing people inside cafes, at the library, or sitting by a window if it's shady & drawing the view? I think it's valuable but also super fun to switch up mediums for the situation

1️⃣what you see & translating it onto a surface. I draw digitally with photo refs at home, & I have a small sketchbook/ mini watercolour set that I use if I have spare time while I'm out. If you want to draw outside, 2️⃣

Deanna Hewitt | Animation Design @decomadraws.bsky.social · 26/01/2025

Oh yeah I've had teachers tell me I need to draw from life too. It's valuable if you can, even sometimes, but it's for sure not the only way to learn. It has this 'prestigious tradition' reputation, but it's not always accessible. I find studying from photos is still great, you're still analysing 1️⃣

Looks great! And what a delightful little palette

I say go for whichever way is most fun to you, whichever way will inspire you to keep trying again! Different mediums have different techniques that can take a bit to figure out, but the core skill of drawing is transferable 😊

Hello! I'm Deanna, illustrator and designer for animation! I'm new here, I'd love if you could help me find my people 💜 #illustration #art #characterdesign #digitalart #animation #animalart #petart #drawing

Illustration: a white duck (who is on holiday in Europe) is sitting on a balcony railing, overlooking Paris. The Eiffel tower is on the horizon under fluffy clouds. The duck wears a stylish vintage green lady's hat with a pink ribbon, an expensive necklace, and a luxury handbag. She looks elegantly wistful, admiring the view!

Illustration: an Italian greyhound on a white background is sitting with their front paw raised, and is looking behind themselves nervously. They are wearing an oversized knit jumper with fish designs around the plush collar. They are surrounded by stars in the shape of the Pisces constellation, and in fact the dog's pose reflects the shape of this constellation. This is Pisces reimagined as a dog.

Illustration: the upper body of a woman, drawn on a white background. She is leaning forward with her left hand on a table, her right hand on her hip. She smiles gently, one eye brow raised, as though waiting for an answer. She has teal wavy hair which messily falls below her shoulders. She is wearing yellow gold earrings and leaf necklaces, a purple sleeveless top, and purple leggings.

Illustration: a chestnut horse with flaxen mane and tail. (side note, flaxen is blonde.) The horse stands on a white background, side on to the viewer. They are leaning forward and looking behind their shoulder while their long mane and tail billow in the wind.
