Ahhh, that's a shame. I use SNAC for every core I usually play. Thanks for letting me know.

Over a decade ago my university peer group and I were able to individually throw together Unity prototypes during our first evening with the engine, with no prior experience of using it and a rudimentary knowledge of C#. You didn't need a high level of coding experience to get started.
Screenshot of a quote from the article. It reads:

“We made Unity Spark for the gamers who have spent a thousand hours inside a genre and know exactly what’s missing. The graphic artist who wants to bring their vision to life but doesn’t know how to code. Modders who now want to create something entirely new. That’s the opportunity we see: Folks with real creative conviction who can now fulfill their full potential.”

After a decade of trying I've sadly given up on vegan boots. Days of research followed by weeks of breaking them in, then months of blisters and agony for my poor, battered feet, caused by materials of insufficient quality. Not one pair has lasted a year, which has been really disappointing.

I predict we'll need gyms for our brains too, once Al

How is non-PS1 SNAC handled without the Dock? Is there a standard SNAC port on this model?

AI-assisted development

This project was developed in collaboration with an AI assistant.

The AI handled a large part of the technical implementation: analysing the game's code, writing reverse-engineering and diagnostic tools, implementing patches, testing hypotheses and automating repetitive checks.

(LOUD DIARRHEA NOISES) directed the project, deciding what to investigate, proposing and discarding approaches, interpreting results, identifying problems, choosing which solutions to pursue, testing the builds and validating the final behavior.

The distinction matters: the AI did a great deal of the programming work, but the project itself was not produced by asking for a finished hack and accepting the first result. It was an iterative process of investigation, implementation, testing, failure, correction and regression testing.

A very different version of Frasier though! Still pompous in Cheers but very much one of the guys by the end. Plus I can't ever imagine Seattle Frasier wearing this.

Hmm, I have no desire to use it as anything other than a memory card so the lack of an additional battery is appealing. Quite confusing to have to piece this all together though.

Being on the sharp end of retail for years also highlighted how critical the trade-in system could be for day-one sales of some games, with a few people doing it on a rolling basis every week. I expect they'd be priced out now, especially with new releases about £25-35 more expensive than they were.
000
DeciderVT @decidervt.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Agreed. It's good that you're taking value into account when it matters. I'd imagine that the sting of a full-price AAA game would linger when it came to writing a review. On the plus side: I've seen that codes sometimes come with certain expectations from publishers, so at least you can avoid that!

DeciderVT @decidervt.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
That's such a good point. I wish I'd known about the AI use beforehand. Unfortunately I bought a digital copy because it was on sale and I wanted to see what the fuss was about. It's a shame that's becoming the only legitimate route available in future for PS players.

I hardly used them for anything other than Linux navigation in the desktop mode, where I found them a bit fiddly and haptic feedback felt a bit buzzy and unnecessary. I was curious about using them with point and click adventures but I didn't get around to playing any before I traded mine in.

Such a shame. I liked his channel when he was delivering MiSTer news. Had to unsub recently because there was a fresh recomp video in my feed daily & he isn't filtering his coverage. It gets views but does the people who work hard a disservice when they're drowned out by or associated with the slop.

Case in point: I paid £75 for Resident Evil 9. I was able to sell my physical PS5 copy on to recoup costs afterwards. With digital licences poised to replace discs, that initial outlay will be gone forever by default. When that happens, should the launch price be actively considered by a reviewer?
000
DeciderVT @decidervt.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Are there any reviewers out there that comment on the actual launch price of a game these days? Obviously inflation is a factor and it's harder to pin down with an international audience but once in a while it'd be nice to see someone questioning whether a game is worth a £75+ outlay in some cases.

That's really interesting, not even in a shop? I used to see the Master System 2 on display in department stores and the idea of it having a built-in game seemed really unusual but cool at the time. Funny to retrospectively think of Alex Kidd as an early digital release for a lot of people!

Additionally, there were a few friends who had Amigas. But as far as consoles went in my circle of friends and kids at my school, we didn't bother with them at all during the 80s and after then it was Nintendo all the way. Even my teacher had a NES.

DeciderVT @decidervt.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Despite growing up in the UK, I only knew one person who had a Master System. Everyone I knew had Spectrums up until the early 90s, then most of us got a NES about a year or two before the SNES arrived. To find that this lived experience was an outlier was a surprise to me.

Keep a regularly updated physical logbook of digital services you use too. Ensure that you use clear, consistent formatting. Audit your services regularly and ruthlessly. It'll let your relatives know exactly who to contact. If you stop using a service, make it very clear that you have.

DeciderVT @decidervt.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Also, simplify your digital footprint. Take time to close unused accounts and pare down social media to the bare minimum. Don't rely on companies to have coherent bereavement processes. When you're dead you've ceased to be of value to them, so many of them won't care about helping your relatives.

Additionally, a significant part of your end-of-life plan should involve an easily accessible and robust backup solution. Don't leave it to your family to rummage through shoeboxes and drawers. Archive your family photos and important documents in a single, shared place that is regularly backed up.

Estate admin really drives home a couple of points: 1. Having the means to read and back up legacy media (like CompactFlash cards) is invaluable 2. A lot of early digital photos are noticeably inferior to film and far harder to track down and organise than prints and negatives

Given the prevalence of weathervane politics and the impatience of the electorate, I'm quite sceptical about any of this being given time to come to pass. It's still a nice change to hear a PM talking about "[undoing] 40 years of neoliberalism" though. Article: www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Burnham promises to roll back privatisation with government-backed grid plan
Exclusive: Creation of GB Grid will be major step towards putting Britain’s utility companies into public control

It's absolutely wild to me that the Prime Minister's speeches are intentionally leaked and reported on in this level of detail, a full day before he actually delivers the speech. "Burnham will say..." "He will add..."
An extract from a Guardian article, about Andy Burnham pledging a nationally-owned energy grid, proposed to compete with private providers. It reads:

"Government sources have suggested Burnham would signal his willingness to review the policy, but stop short of a pledge to scrap it altogether.

"Burnham will tell the conference on Tuesday: “We have a cost crisis. We all know it. The price of energy is crippling for businesses, and British bill payers pay some of the highest energy costs in Europe.

"“We have an energy system where prices are dictated in markets miles away, while families and businesses here shoulder the costs. Once again, the British public has lost control.”"

Looking forward to the Terranigma re-release but wondering why it's standalone and not a compilation of Quintet's 16-bit RPGs, as S-E did with the Mana collection on Switch. Could've been a lovely opportunity to give Quintet their due and provide a nice retrospective of their work from that period.

Found an old roll of Game Boy Camera photos on my desk yesterday. Sadly I don't have a digital copy of this particular photo but it's of me playing my brand new Virtual Boy, some time in 1999.
A faded, low-resolution, highly pixellated black and white image of me as a teenager, with my face planted firmly in my Virtual Boy. It was shot on my Game Boy Camera and printed onto a small roll of light blue thermal transfer paper, using the Game Boy Printer accessory.

Loved this write-up and I still love my GB Camera. In many ways it feels like the camera and printer combo led the way for the Instax craze now. You didn't need to glue the printed photos though, the thermal paper has a self-adhesive backing! Funnily enough I found the receipt for mine yesterday.
