The President's Budget Request has dropped with a cut of $4.7B to NSF (from the 2024 $9B budget). Science drives discovery, innovation, and ultimately, the national economy. If Congress enacts this as the actual budget it will cripple science and our economic future. This is the moment to act.

We just finished a video (posted to a4e.org under Action / Support US Science) - trying to let people know what is being cut and lost in the Presidents Budget Request (most of NSF and NASA science). Please share if you like this! www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZsQ...

I've spent the day working with Reporter data... differences in number of funded applications from 1/20/24-2/21/24 and 1/20/25-2/21/25 by state. This is the picture (happy to share code):

I wonder if we could organize a consumer “no buy” day as a way of protest. An abrupt halt to spending. No Amazon, no Starbucks, empty stores. Diffuse action - hard to attack. Disadvantage is that it would require synchronized participation of many people in the country. But imagine the impact.

I think we are wasting time protesting Trump and Musk. That bus has left the station. But we can star targeting every senator up for re-election in 2026 and every congressional rep. Let’s refocus - this is going to be a long game and we have less than 18 months for a full scale attack.

Indivisible seems to be set up to support rapid organization. Any experience with them? The getting started guides look brilliant. I was the NSF division director for astronomy at NSF from 2021 - 2023 and it pains me to see what is happening to my colleagues and vulnerable early career scientists.

Yes - I want to support a team to set up a March for Science. I'm concerned that we don't have months or even weeks. How fast can this come together? Is someone starting this? Count me in to help!
