Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 19hI’ve been super tempted for a long time but I do worry about the cost vs my usage rate. I got an iPad for editing photos on the go with a proper pen to write on it (Lamy Digital) so am evaluating how much I actually write on a tablet first… but so so so tempted 010 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 21hThat’s my thinking about it as well. I have been super tempted by the remarkable for a few years now and I’ve seen some people using it and they love it. 100 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 22hAnd I have had a couple of books disappear from my kindle which makes me very salty. Worse is they were actually purchased instead of kindle unlimited which I could understand losing the licence for… but if I buy something it is mine! Jen uses Calibre to bypass drm. 120 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 22hRemarkable is good if you are looking to annotate or expand into taking notes, but for just an e-reader… I wouldn’t. I have a kindle but I have both the kindle and kobo apps on my phone. Choice of books in native store is better with kindle (and unlimited) but the limitations of the drm is real. 120 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 22hThat happened @arasigyrn.bsky.social in the middle of a half marathon, scared the crap outta the trainee first aider who got mocked richly up until the paramedic couldn’t find it either! 010 0

Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Tried a girly thing but it turned out not to be for me, so now, have removed the fake lashes and did a full rub of my eyes… won’t be doing that again 120 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 12/10/2026It definitely definitely recommend this brand, great feel in the hand and very solid. 010 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 12/10/2026That makes my second TWSBI and Nahvalur, both of which are workhorses. Happy to have two more of these in my collection. A mix of costs and types, and surprisingly mostly green given that I was looking at purple pens at the various stands. Funny how that works, isn’t it? 010 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 12/10/2026My final pen is an absolutely beautiful #Nahvalur Eclipse in colour Emerald, with a fine nib. This is a retractable fountain pen, one of the emerging models but this is a very solid example that has a nice click to it. Those dark areas are open and basically the gaps close as you click. :) 240 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Pen number 5 is a @twsbi.bsky.social #ECOBRZ Piston Filling pen in Bronze Flourite. Nib size for this one is medium for a little variety. The barrel is clear, which I love because I can monitor the ink level. The cap and piston twist are a marble of purple, white and pink, with copper accents. 150 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Two little fountain pens at numbers three and four. These are the amazingly hard working #PlatinumPreppy pens in purple and green, both at 0.3, which makes them a fine nib. If you are looking to see if fountain pens are for you, these are a great way to start. 130 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Pen number 2 is the #KawecoPen, in colour Marble Ocean. It’s a mix of green and blue at random (every pen is slightly different). I got the extra fine nib, and I love that this is a pen of two halves that makes it super portable. 110 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 12/10/2026The first pen is #TheWren in colour Ivy from #TomsStudio. I have seen this advertised everywhere for a while so seeing it in person, I had to give it a shot. I will be putting green ink in it to match the pen colour. 110 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Now the ink haul: #FrozenFortress blue shimmer from #FerrisWheelPress, #RaspberrySorbet a pinky purple from #TomsStudio, Imperial Purple and Beau Blue from #YardOLed and some other samples from #TomsStudio 110 0

Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Okay, we finally escaped London, so I can share my hoard from my trip to the #LondonAutumnPenShow and various other stationary stores… If you don’t like pens, you may want to skip this thread. Just warning you. 130 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 12/10/2026#ChronicPain sucks! Three days of walking and I am done! So fucking sore, and now I have a couple of days to recover before Copenhagen… 010 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 12/10/2026So train was slightly delayed and there’s a blip with staffing due to late crossovers. There’s a woman asking for a refund, saying she won’t shoot the messenger but immediately went on Instagram and started talking about it and complaining… OMG, just wanna be honest now. #travel #adventuresInRail 000 0

Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Hey @nationalgalleryuk.bsky.social maybe don’t point towards an artist on your sign when it physically isn’t possible to get to their paintings via the signposts. Finding room 32 from 18 meant completely leaving that section and going the whole way around. Update your signs with closures! 000 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 11/10/2026That is horrific! And I genuinely don’t see how they got it through consultation beyond ´they’re gonna be grateful for the money’ … wow!! 000 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 11/10/2026@simon.farnz.org.uk was it truly US government funded or linked to a pharma company, because I would absolutely expect better coming from a gov dept (and then I remember RFKjr and the hack and slash approach). It’s not going to be supportable data wise. 110 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 11/10/2026That was interesting reading and I can see absolutely why the county suspended the trial. A placebo controlled vaccine trial is unethical in that situation… based just on established protocols, it should be comparator controlled at the very least. 130 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Me too, I primarily use them for writing up my daily to-do list and jotting things down as I investigate… I find that I have to make time for pens otherwise it’s all typing all the time. 010 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Yeah, I kinda expected more from it, especially for newcomers. I am slowly converting my wife to the world of fountain pens :) 230 0

Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Would I go again? Maybe but I would make it a 1 day ticket and have plans for the other time. Realistically after about 3 hours there was nothing more to do than spend money on new pens… I don’t regret going and I did support indie creators, so happy about that. But… know what you’re getting into! 020 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 11/10/2026The people running them had no idea about them, and specifically for a calligraphy panel whether materials would be provided. How do you not know that? Is it a demo or a workshop? « Maybe the convention is providing something » is not good enough for a £35 price point workshop! 100 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 11/10/2026We did buy a number of pens, because well… they were pretty, but will talk about them later. For a convention that specifically said they had wide aisle for accessibility, they realistically failed to deliver that and it was too much crammed into too little space. All panels/workshops were paid for. 110 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 11/10/2026We did meet the wonderful ladies at the #MeticulousInks stand (based in Bath) and they were lovely. Already sent in a follow up order to them :) Biggest regret was that I did not know there were going to be people there who could repair pens otherwise I could have brought my Conway Stewart 60. 110 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 11/10/2026The other side (and there were some exceptions) stocked the stuff with price tags in the mid 3 and 4 figures, and maybe I didn’t look like I had that sort of disposable income. So for a few stalls, I got watched with a sour puss and the balding gentleman behind me got greeted with a wide smile. 110 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 11/10/2026@cultpens.bsky.social had an amazing showing with great stock, approachable and friendly people, but were hampered by the single cash desk (which still worked well just long lines). The stalls on that side of the venue had people who seemed to genuinely want to share the joy of pens. 110 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 11/10/2026The space was naturally divided in two, with a ballroom filled with stalls and then the reception/outer bar area also filled with stalls. The ballroom was filled with the stuff to make your wallet cry, and the reception was for the more affordable, more approachable stalls. 110 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 11/10/2026There was apparently a draw for something which you entered by getting stamps at booths but eh… that depended on who signed you into the convention. Disorganised would be underselling it. However, there were some beautiful pens there at all price ranges. But… half the hall felt inaccessible. 110 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 11/10/2026The website for the show was sparse to say the least but I expected more info when we got there. There was ink at the front desk but no signs about it, apparently it was exclusive and for sale. There was a freebies table, but no sign for it so looked like a random collection of stuff. 110 0
Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 11/10/2026So yesterday we went to the #LondonAutumnPenShow and I have to admit I was a little disappointed. There were some fabulous people there but a lot of the stalls felt like I wasn’t enough for them to do more than dismiss. It felt like an old boys network that I just didn’t fit into. 141 0

Bon (she/her) @deannawol.bsky.social · 28/09/2026The subculture groups, e.g., sci fi, gamers, etc., are a lot more accepting in general. Widely speaking, there's a live and let live culture outside the cities, where if you get involved in local events you're treated as a person and not a label. Then, they go to the wall for you! 050 0
