A game where failing your roll actually helps you? That's Staged Heroism, a TTRPG based on The Venture Bros. and The Tick. I take a crack at why this "fail-forward" design works while introducing you to a game you might not of heard of. youtu.be/yCCB_lp7DAc #TTRPG #GameDesign #VentureBros #TheTick

Converting old #BCEMI stuff to #CypherSystem is an interesting experience. What do you prioritize here? Do you try and keep the sanctity of the original content? Disregard original intent? Each piece of the puzzle needs to be weighed on that scale to different degrees. Fun & frustrating #TTRPGs

As a #TTRPG reviewer, one of the hardest things is getting a good overview of the game, i.e. playing it. You need to get the players together, find the right time, and then hopefully they all play different things so you can see how it all works. That's why you can't get timely reviews out!

An RPG video game where the MC is secretly Ace. Every time you’d think a romantic choice could be selected you just get clueless replies constantly. “Why don’t come up to my room and you can give me a thorough search?” - If that’s what you want, I’ll call my partner to make sure it isn’t a trap.

In my experience, when you add firearms to a fantasy game, they quickly take over. You’ll have at least one gun user if not every player in some way. A crowd pleaser, quickly go from something new and interesting to the normal. I am very cautious about adding them, and advise other the same. #ttrpg

In #TTRPGs I get why there is a random die roll for damage. There seems to be a good deal that goes into how strikes work. But I'm always elated when damage is increased by how well you did, makes more sense. The better you are, the more damage you can do, and that's seems like a no brainer.

Not sure how it happened, but christian platitudes have transformed into being very condescending. It started with "Bless your heart", moved on to "I'll pray for you" and then there is my favorite: "My brother in Christ."

Single dice are superior to dice pool systems. Easier to read, faster to figure out if you succeeded or not, and that elation when you roll the natural 20. Dice pools have nothing on that feeling. #TTRPG
