Another day, another learning moment. Here's animation retargeting in Godot. #GameDev

Hair systems in Blender are absolutely wild. This is a plugin called Hair Tool, and I'm just starting to get the hang of it. It feels super complicated at first, but the idea of really digging deep and making super custom assets for characters is really interesting.
Screenshot of Blender, showcasing a Caucasian male with blonde-brown hair and highlighted strands for the editing process. Parts of the hair layer are missing or bare skin, as I'm still learning how to do different layers with varying lengths.Developer honesty. Here's the side of the face that's kind of messed up, because I haven't figured out how to do skin fades yet.

Slowly making progress on 3D stuff with Godot engine. Today's experiment involved staging elements to go in different rooms. Kind of janky, but I learned some new things today. There, uh, were supposed to be walls, but that part didn't work with the Blender export! 😅
A bedroom with the walls missing in a test level. I'm looking at a poster of some green hills, floating over a dresser with a plant and a record player on it.Looking around in my "wall-less" room, this time I'm in third person and facing the bed.Facing the bed and living room, but from behind.First person view, glancing down at the TV next to a coffee table.

I'm not going to sugar coat it. Black Mirror episodes like this make me want to blow up corporate buildings.

I know it's super rough, but my latest update on my Godot thing now supports loading and saving user configs and has a settings menu! codeberg.org/deadsuperher...
A screenshot of my Godot template thing. It's a screenshot of gameplay with a blue drawing pose figure as the player character. The game is paused, and a transparent dark menu on the left shows some game options. On the right is a misaligned settings pane set to the Video tab, with fields set for game resolution and window mode.

Hmm, doesn't look like posts are flowing through yet, despite a few tests. Any ideas on things I can try from my end?

Absolutely unhinged question, NYT.
New York Times headline: "My Husband Can't Get a Job. Should I Divorce Him?"

Subheading: "Plus, whether to use AI to get ahead at work...if you think the technology is evil."

Our beagle boy is still with us. It's been six months from his initial cancer diagnosis, and we're grateful for every extra day we have with him. Toby is still full of energy and attitude. He has managed to outlive initial expectations, but his condition could change at any time.

Progress! Still a lot to figure out, but making clothes is slowly getting easier. Next major challenge is making sure the clothing doesn't break during body deformation. After that, I'll make sure everything is set up for the character, and plug him into Godot!

I just realized what one of my psychedelic sketches was inspired by. Kind of weird to realize, but I like it.

I’m writing a desktop music player as part of my Computer Science Class / as an open source thing for my own education. I’ve wisely named it Boomer. It looks like poop and doesn't actually play music yet, but I'm learning a lot. Check out the repo here: codeberg.org/deadsuperher...
A desktop music player written in Java Swing. It's very ugly, but it has player buttons, and a table showing track values for Name, Artist, Album, Genre, and Year. The application is called Boomer.

What's really funny is that when I try to look up this post from my Akkoma client, it redirects to this.

I put out a message asking about raising money for my news site, and some Anticapitalist on Mastodon started lecturing me about how the desire to make money and grow a following is somehow inherently bad. He literally said "We cannot defeat Capitalism with the Master's Tools."

TIL that Wafrn, which is kind of like a Tumblr app for the #Fediverse (and Bluesky!) has a full copy of Doom running in DOSbox in the browser.

This was mostly a joke graphic for my article, but fuck me if picking an initial instance doesn’t feel like this for new users. #Mastodon
An edited "spin the wheel" ad that's sadly very common on ecommerce sites, edited to be an instance picker for Mastodon. There are a lot of goofy, random choices that newcomers would absolutely feel confused by.

Annoyed that the stupid Apple Pencil Pro I bought for class doesn't even work with my iPad. The future sucks.
You wouldn't download a car meme, but it says "You wouldn't use an Apple Pencil with the wrong iPad!"

What's kind of crazy is that the level of algebra problems I have to solve now look like the picture below. At the beginning of the semester, I would've thrown up my hands and quit. I feel really proud of myself. A lot of it looks harder than it really is.
Notebook with a homework equation on it. It's an equation requiring use of the quadratic formula, with the goal of figuring out what X is.

18x⅔ = -55x⅓ + 28

You have to rearrange the equation to equal zero, then plug a formula, simplify the fractions, then convert it back into the terms of the original variables. Because these variables are ⅓ in a factored equation, we just cube both sides, then make sure the answer cannot be simplified further.

Two answers work for x here: 64/729, and -343/8.

This is 100% fake, but as I slowly wade into modding #Fallout, I've been thinking of making good on an old idea I've had...
A mockup of a Pip-Boy 3000 from Fallout, with a map of Peoria, Illinois. A logo in the bottom-left corner reads: Fallout Peoria.

I’m starting to think that only neural networks can actually pass this shit anymore.
A CAPTCHA prompting the viewer to spot the dolphin and click on it. The image is painful to look at, and reveals a chaotic jumble of blurry greyscale images against letters and numbers.

Working on a #design study for @wedistribute.org branding and visual language. It’s just a rough draft for now, but it’s fun to think about and sketch out ideas. I’m a total hobbyist / amateur when it comes to this stuff, but it feels really cool to finally put some kind of foundation down.
Various versions of We Distribute's current logo.

Text: "Upsides: Glitchy, experimental, easily recognizable. Despite being visually jumbled, you can still recognize what it is. Looks cool.

Downsides: logo does not actually convey any meaning. It looks cool, but the symbolism is shallow at best, and it doesn't really represent anything beyond the website. Despite some other visual elements of the site having a glitch aesthetic, the overall visual design is not actually glitchy, and looks more like print media."A demonstration of We Distribute's current wordmark, with some discussion of fonts and how that assortment looks on a page.

Text: "Upsides: Bold, strong, visually distinct. It's one hell of a wordmark, and feels like its own newspaper. Playfair Display is such an incredible font, and looks great for journalism.

Downsides: serif-based, old fashioned looking, doesn't visually gel with the logo that well. Even more confusing is the fact that the wordmark is used for headings, quotes, and titles, but the body uses a sans-serif font (Noto Sans) for the body, subheadings, call-outs, and prompts.

Visually, I'm pretty happy with how our fonts are currently set up, but I would be curious to experiment some more, and see whether other typefaces might suit us better."An assortment of thumbnails from various articles, all hand-made, all dramatically different in a number of ways.

Text: "For better or worse, article thumbnails are all over the place. I think it's largely a positive thing, as the act of creating them is often inside a sandbox of experimental procedures. They're memorable, eye-catching, and evoke curiosity.

One downside here is that some thumbnails (not included) are either very simple image edits, or simple stock images when there isn't time to make something more elaborate. On a one-off basis, this isn't so bad, but I think the stuff above is way more interesting."A variety of different symbols, including a recycling logo, an ekg symbol, various decentralized network symbols, the Librecast symbol, and the chaos symbol.

The words are too long to fit in the alt text, sorry.

"Why the hell are you working on this?" Well, I'm converting a Friendica theme to look like Myspace Classic, and needed a proper music player. So I hacked on some guy's old one and added a new audio framework.

An old art piece I did. Part of my Disreality series: "Portrait of an American". It's a picture of my sick brain.
A weird painting with a brain thing and a feather and eyeballs and distorted faces on it.
