NEW: Our investigation for @thenerve_news reveals not only that Peter Thiel’s Palantir is completely enmeshed in our critical national infrastructure. It’s also the ‘cloud support’ for our nuclear weapons system 🤯 1/ www.thenerve.news/p/palantir-t...

Finding Vivian Maier is a documentary that uncovers the mysterious life of Vivian Maier, a reclusive nanny whose extraordinary street photography was discovered only after her death.

My mission to improve my darkroom printing is starting to get results. Here's a pic of the cave in Cademan Woods, Leicestershire.
A black and white darkroom print of some woods. The Ballance of light and dark areas feels natural, and there are interesting details of fauna and rocks.

Went to the garage, today, with a rattly exhaust (the car, not me). They fixed it. How much? "Ah, it was simple, no charge for that." Yaaaa, thank you David Lowe Garage of Loughborough.

Went to see art, then went to the pub. Got two new art projects planned. Normal night.

If you’ve seen Romeo and Juliet, you likely can summarize the plot in a single sentence that appears nowhere in the play. A new physics-inspired theory aims to explain our story-recalling ability by modeling the memory of a story as a hierarchical tree.

How We Remember Stories
The memory of a story appears to have a tree-like structure, with abstract summaries branching out into more specific details.

Today's watergram/luminogram. Getting funky with the designs. #luminogram #cameralessphotography #ilfordpaper
A printed picture of an abstract design with a circle with lines emanating, in a curved oblong, surrounded by an image of water.

Walked to the pub through the woods, aiming to return while still light. Failed. Woods by moonlight are fantastic. Pros: See the familiar woods in a whole new way. Cons: Trip up a lot. May be abducted by fairies.

I was photographing dance at a school this week. Although exhausting, it was also uplifting. The teachers had endless patients, and you could see how much the kids got out of it, learning teamwork, problem solving, and using their imagination. I felt privileged to document it.

More mixed watergram and luminograms. Using a curved mask, so there is a bit of both in the middle. Using a wet mask damaged this one, and it's tricky getting both sides a similar density. Trial and error. Make lots, as usual.

Currently, on Google Maps, the aerial view of my area was photographed while covered in snow. It's a joy to look round it, and some of it has late afternoon long shadows, too.

I'm rubbish at writing sentences and paragraphs, but I like words. Some favorites are susserus, shivelight, liminality. What do others like?

A watergram mixed with a bit of luminogram. Not quite there, yet, but the principle works.

Today's discovery: The quibble. In computing, a byte is (usually) 8 bits. 4 bits is referred to as a nibble. A collection of four nibbles, is a quad-nibble, or, a quibble.

What is the little buzz you feel on your fingertips, when you run your fingers over the metal surface of a Mac laptop, when it's plugged into power?

A thought on the spotify wrapped posts, I don' use spotify, but also, I don't go down a rabbit hole of individual musicians, it's more styles of music that spans many artists. At the moment it's offshoots of folk, but I'm sure it'll change.

This is a little audio player I built. It's going to be fitted inside a conch shell, which will be crafted by the Enter Edem folk. It will be telling tales of the undersea world for a show called Aquanauts.

To show what a versatile chap I am (I'm not), I also do headshots. Studio or out and about, but always fun. Photos of David Bowley, Charley Benny, Autumn Unwin and Dwayne Simms
A black and white photo of a short haired man in a suit, straightening his tie. His expression looks a little smug.A dramatic photo of a girl looking to the sky, her hands to her face, with an intense expression. She has blue hair and a snake necklace.A smart bearded person, with a sparkly dress and black painted fingernails, holding opera glasses, furrowing their brow.A smiling bearded chap, with big glasses.

I photograph a lot of contemporary dance. Here's some pics of Louisa Robey, Sarah West & Seraina Dejaco, Liza Mortimer and Aimee Lily Williamson.
A dancer twisting in the air, in front of a doorway painted the same colour as her outfit. Two dancers dance amid some trees. A dancer balances on one toe, with the other leg raised and arms in the air. She dances in front of a window of a stately home.A dancer in the snow kicks high. She is wearing Dr Marten boots.

As well as photography, I also build electronics for theatre companies and artists. Here's a jellyfish for the Enter Edem show Aquanauts. The construction was by the wonderful Emma Fay.

Another print in my roots series. This was the tree that gave me the idea for the project. I've been doing lighter and darker versions, but I'm happy with this split contrast print.
