I’m attempting to write a 3,000 word short story for a local contest but I’m struggling on the idea/plot. I have lots of ideas for novellas and such, but keeping things short is hard for me! I had an idea about a vengeful demon but it’s just not grabbing me…

All authors love libraries. All authors want to see their books in libraries. Don't ever feel bad for using a library. You just made every author everywhere very, very happy. Also, request our books in libraries if they aren't there! Be the book change you want to see in the library! ;)

More books are in stock! I also sell ebooks in both PDF and EPUB in the download. Buying directly helps support authors better than going through online stores and I charge the same as Amazon and other online retailors + shipping. Plus, you can see updates in my blog regarding current projects.

I’d like to think that racism has taken a back seat in NWO, what with nuclear devastation and all, but there are political/group allegiances that cause problems for sure.

While I’ve always tried to work on anger and not letting it control me, I won’t lie and say it’s not a good motivator for me. I’m in the mindset of “I’ll show them how it’s done” a lot

Got stuck on my thesis and needed a break from it so new wip! 😍 High fantasy with themes about coming-of-age, the burden of power, and “how sick are these powers?!”

sorta maybe? The lore is that the “leaf symbol” was inspired by the Clan Symbol of the Uzumaki, who Naruto is descended from They also had a symbol that I believe was very fishcake like whether it was completely intentional I don’t fully remember off the top of my head

120

D.B. Kingsley @dbkingsley.bsky.social · 22/05/2026

whoops, need to correct this: the symbol on the bracelet is for the Leaf Village, where the character of Naruto resides it’s like a way to identify which nation you serve Naruto’s namesake is for the fishcake

D.B. Kingsley @dbkingsley.bsky.social · 22/05/2026

yes! the main characters name actually is “naruto” and it’s a lore point too he’s the one in the orange jumpsuit :)

I can’t tell if joke so anyway honest answer It’s from a major classic anime known as “Naruto” and “Naruto: Shippuden” that’s about magical ninjas (and ninja jesus/his reincarnations) with wild stances on child soldiers and military societies (not all of them bad per se) He’s my goofy son

I usually don’t recommend researching nuclear winter late at night but it’s getting the brain going on where to set NWO time wise Wonder how weird I can get before the science gets to fantasy?

I ran a very short attempt at a podcast and got burnt out quick. We had a sponsor but it was a dice maker friend. He made us custom dice on order. The extent of “product placement” and “shilling” we did was a short ad read about his services and declaring we use them. That’s it.

It’s weird that Helen of Troy being played by a black actress is a problem, but most of the rest of the Mediterranean, Greek and Turkish characters being played by incredibly fair and blond haired people of British, Irish and Scandinavian descent isn’t. And by weird, I mean entirely predictable.

Speculative fiction fans, can you *please* stop using YA as a way to insult adult fiction? YA isn't devoid of subtext or descriptions. It isn't lesser. If you notice those trends in adult, it's not because YA trends have infected it. And if you notice that in YA, then you need to read better books.

While there’s aren’t inter-dimensional wormholes or aliens (yet) in New World Order, once I publish, it becomes clear how Stargate really shaped me in terms of writing

One of these days I’d love to author a canon official/adjacent #Stargate series book I grew up watching with my step-dad, it’s how we bonded in the first few years. Stargate: Atlantis was running and the end of SG:1 was near but the movies were also coming out!

A couple people are asking if they need to play BG3 first, and the problem here is that if you play BG3, this book is “wow, it’s the tragic backstory!” If you don’t play it, the book is “wtf, why did Kingfisher write a book about this vampire being tormented that has such a downer ending?!?”

Yes, Swiss scientist Fritz Zwicky coined the term “dark matter” which is impressive, but he also coined the term “spherical bastard” to describe people who are bastards no matter which way you look at them, and I think that should be celebrated more.
