I miss movie tie-in reprints of the source books. My 1969 edition for the movie launch. I have never seen it in print since, which is a real shame. It's a gut punch of a novella. It sold for 95 cents new, this used copy purchased maybe decade later set me back a buck. #filmsky 📽️
The cover of the movie tie in edition of Horace McCoy's They Shoot Horses, Don't They?
The title and blurb 'The classic American novel by HORACE McCOY now a brilliant ABC Pictures Corp. film dominate the bottom 60% of the spartan white cover.
Placed far left just above, is a tritone image of a gramophone, shot overhead, with the 'platter' an image of struggling dancers during one of the 'derby' portions of the event..

In honour of the great Randy Newman album, his anecdote about the genesis of the song Naked Man:
In the 2003 remastered version of Good Old Boys, Newman explains that this song is based on a true story as told to him by a friend who was a public defender. A woman had her purse snatched by a naked man running down the street. Police found a naked guy a few blocks away with her purse, but he insisted that he didn't take the purse, but that another naked man handed it to him. The guy's excuse for why he was naked: he was having an affair with his friend's wife, and when his friend came home, he fled out the fire escape and didn't have time to put his clothes on. It didn't hold up in court, and the guy was convicted.
