“Am I going crazy?” Lan Jingyi wondered aloud, stepping uneasily toward one of the off-shoot rooms to peer inside the window. “It’s Monday, right?”

“Hello.”

“AH!” Lan Jingyi shrieked. He jumped actual inches off the ground like a startled cat.

A woman stepped into view, hands up in a non-threatening pose. “Sorry,” she said, “didn’t mean to startle you.”

“I’m dead. I’m literally dead,” Lan Jingyi panted, his heart racing. “You killed me.”

She smirked and, oh, OH, he knew this woman. Of all the people in all the world.

“Dr. Wen Qing,” she said, holding out her hand for him to shake, same as she had the first time he’d met her.

“I know who you are,” Lan Jingyi admitted, then wished he hadn’t. Why was he was so awkward? He rushed to take her hand and shake it, hoping he could recover. And yet, it was somehow more awkward.

Wen Ning is very dead, so was not expecting a late-in-life crisis of sexuality. Because dead. Even worse, it's aimed directly at Wei-gongzi's spiky, mean shi-di, and he goes to ALL of same the parent-teacher-club (PTA) meetings.

Avoiding the man is impossible; Wen Ning is not going to miss out on what's left of A-Yuan's childhood because of some stupid crush.

“Jingyi.” Jiang Cheng tucked his hand beneath Lan Jingyi’s chin and nudged him back up. “You’re not a freak.”

The words hit a little odd, even if they were true. Their sex life was not freaky. It was pretty standard, non-freaky stuff. And sure, voyeurism existed on a spectrum of potential fantasies that, if acted out, could probably range from still quite vanilla to freaky. But the real point was, “Not that there’d be anything wrong with it if you were freaky.”

The more Jiang Cheng used that word, the more he hated it. But debating semantics in his head was just his brain’s way of trying to postpone telling Lan Jingyi the truth. He steered himself away from distraction toward discipline.

“I keep seeing Wei Wuxian in my head.” Jiang Cheng confessed, throwing his hands over his face. He could say it, but his body had decided he couldn’t look at Lan Jingyi while he did. “And hearing him… explaining the study.”

Lan Jingyi did not respond. The silence stretched on an untenable length, which was just seconds, but seconds was a very long time for Lan Jingyi to be silent.

“Um,” Lan Jingyi stuttered, at last.

“It’s not a sexual fantasy, Jingyi!” He shouted
