There are QBs who just Benjamin Button their way through college, unlearning the fundamentals and losing knowledge and refinement year after year. Mateer is definitely one of those.

Hot take: in any case where a defense gets an unsportsmanlike conduct that will be enforced on a kickoff the team that just scored should always go for the onside kick. At that point the yardage difference for a failed onside attempt is nearly negligible.

There's a story in our industry about a guy who had to get the approval of every senior officer in the club for any expense in his department, no matter how small. He slipped in a purchase request for a jet ski one day and it was signed by everyone up the chain, no questions asked.

Every year I try to think of something clever for this and just end up donating Georgia's point differential or something boring. Much like our offense, this year it will not be any different.

I maintain the only fix for this in baseball is to make the ballparks larger to adjust for the grade of athlete and statistical optimization in the game now. Significant home run totals are too readily achievable for the majority of hitters now and something needs to tip the scales the other way.

This is something that's slowly happening across a lot of industries. Talent pipelines and lower-stakes positions that were great for training are being swallowed up by cost-cutting and various sloppy automation schemes, and we're only beginning to reckon with the consequences.
