The death penalty has effectively no measurable deterrent effect. (A minority of researchers think it may do the opposite: that executions actually cause a small rise in murders.) This is cruelty for the sake of titillation.

I can’t stop you from using AI to draft or polish a pitch letter for your book proposal. But I can tell you that if you do, you really should read it very closely before sending because sometimes it just makes stuff up about (a) you, (b) your book, (c) me, or (d) my employer, and sometimes all four
