It was broader than that. What we’ve learned in the last 10 years is that nothing works the way it’s supposed to unless decent people are in charge. The Constitution is not self executing and too much federal law depends on voluntary compliance. All it took was a bold fascist to wreck the edifice.

I’m sympathetic to this man. Party loyalty is powerful, as is propaganda, and not everyone follows politics closely. But he must know that, since Trump will never resign, the only way to rein him in is to give Democrats control of the Congress. He can return to the party once the Republic is safe.
