good men I am begging you to stop being Sad about this and be as mad as the women speaking truths about sexual violence that then result in their own violent, misogynist threats online

Apologies in advance, but I can't afford to feel bad about it. It is time for the big push for my book KAIBYO THE SUPERNATURAL CATS OF JAPAN. Preorders this month will make or break not only the success of the book, but my future books with the publisher. Please buy link.amazon/B0d6PY7Gv

Maglor sings a song at the golden hour of Laurelin, while an ambitious Maedhros and unyielding Fingon duel, or rather play, with sticks - their hands never grasped a sword yet. The House of Finwë series is slowly approaching an end and here’s the newest one: “A Song to Tie Destinies”

Proof that Middle-earth: Shadows of War was lore-accurate with stupid sexy Shelob. Tolkien was a Medievalist after all.

The JRR Tolkien of Japanese manga! It’s crazy how underdiscussed Mizuki is in the West esp in manga/anime communities

When I say Shigeru Mizuki is the second most influential manga artists after Tezuka, I am not talking specifically about his influence on manga. That is too limiting. I am talking about his broader influence on Japanese culture at large. He shaped overall Japanese culture in a way few others have.

I often compare him to being sorta like the Tolkien of Japan with what he did with folklore, its cultural permeation & longevity, & level of skill, expertise, & reflection on the world.

Bc he was also throwing a lot of things from Northern European mythology in The Hobbit as well to tell the story. So it seems that those parts from older myth in Hobbit were part of the sandbox of an isolated tale but not fully connected to it like he would do w/ LOTR (cf. Letter 131).

True. Even the different accounts about the Elf-king is him bringing Elwë Sindiculo into it but meme is more the deliberate choice when doing LOTR so as to potentially get his Silm published

I loved it! Def one of my top films of this year so far. Nice balance of feeling like a video game and not overdoing it. Cinematography was great.

Not only can Maitimo Russandol’s epessë be rendered as “Big Red” but his father-name of Nelyafinwë would mean he’s “Finwë the 3rd”. So that means Findekáno/Fingon would be Jigen, or I guess “JikanoJigon”. Who would be Goemon Ishikawa XIII in this? 🤔

What non-Tolkien related movies would y’all watch to celebrate Silmarillion Day? So far I’ve got jewel heist movies like The Hot Rock, Enter Arsene Lupin, Rififi, Topkapi, & The Howling. Drop your recommendations.

80s Japanese game art clearly influenced by Moebius, Druillet, Corben, etc. slaps so hard. This is one of my favorite illustrations ever.

I just wish the end wasn’t so anti-climactic. I feel like the lack of a satisfying payoff made this such a tragic film endeavor as I really enjoyed the rest of it. I do wonder what notes were given or if there was any interference that dictated alternate choices for it.
