If people in the military over 30 need to have their testosterone levels checked, Hegseth should release his own testosterone level and tell us if he is receiving testosterone treatments.

For AI hallucinations the normal thing is to look at a problem, see what's causing it, and try to find a way to solve it. The AI people seem to think spending more money to keep doing more of the same thing will work. I think the history of taking this approach has not been good.

The Voting Rights Act was passed because the Voting Rights amendment was ignored in the South.

I wish it was possible to have political ads reveal why the doners were paying for the ad, which is often difficult from what the ad says.

If RFK Jr thinks the measles vaccine causes autism, I'd like why he doesn't think getting measles would not cause autism and probably more so.

The truth in the Epstein must be really bad for Trump. Trump has ability to weather scandals that are revealed. He is doing everything that makes him look guilty, rather just letting the the truth come out.

I wonder if there has been any polling on the Albrego Garcia case. I suspect most people side with Garcia. He doesn't look threatening, and seems to be acting as we want immigrants to act. He was also here legally since his asylum claim was ruled valid.

New now: The White House says Canada/Mexico tariffs will remain UNCHANGED -- still 25% over fentanyl concerns, with exemptions for USMCA-compliant goods. Note this is contrary to what the Treasury sec said initially, and what a WH official told me earlier. Details getting hammered out in real time.

Trump's support may melt away fast if enough Republicans start losing their fear to oppose him. Trump's power stems from making everything afraid to oppose him. He makes everyone seek to appease him.

Trump's plan was based on the belief that there would be no tariff retaliation, because they needed to trade or be defended by the US. He's increasing tariffs, because he still believes that.

The main thing to understand Trump is his belief in dominance and one sided deals. He is surprised that Canada, Europe and China are standing up to him.

I think freezing foreign future investments in the US may hurt more than retaliatory tariffs. New foreign investments provide jobs for US workers. The US can respond by investing more in the US. But where is the capital for the new investments going to come from?

One thing about the times we live in is that we (collectively) know so much about the world around us than ever before. People did not think of infectious disease in terms of microbes until recently. We had no idea DNA was involved in hereditary until recently. Most science we think we know is...

If anything will break Trump, the signal scandal will. Watergate was triggered by a security guard noticing tape on a door and investigating. It led ultimately the testimony of John Dean which revealed the extensive moral rot. The existence of the tapes was found almost by accident. So much...

When I hear elites talk like this I realize how sharp people are not nearly as sharp as they think they are. AI can recognize faces, but so can infants and dogs. It's a major breakthrough that it can. It is useful for scanning large volumes of data. It is not medicine. Gary Marcus points out that...

SEPTEMBER 15, 1972, 5:27 P.M. The Oval Office. Present: the President (P), H.R. Haldeman (H) and John Dean (D). D: You can take the Fifth Amendment. P: That’s right. H: You can say you have forgotten too, can’t you? P: You can say I don’t remember. You can say I don’t recall.

Hardline conservatives hate Social Security and really want to destroy it. They believe it will cause an acceptable amount of pain but America will be better off in the end. MAGA likes Social Security. Trump and his toadies are underestimating the backlash.

It's important to try to look at the world as other people see it. Their views are wrong and often very self centered. But they also see themselves as good guys. Understanding how they see themselves gives us knowledge on how to deal with them.

I really recommend Newsom's podcast with Tim Waltz. What Newsom is doing is new. People try to place Newsom's podcast into an existing pigeon hole. Viewed as something different than the standard approach, the podcasts are thought provoking.

See (without agreeing) where the Dem Leadership is coming from. Voting against cabinet members who you can't stop doesn't do much. This is the first vote Dems can win. They can stand for something. Americans like what we stand for. It's believable that the Democrats's goal is not to hurt anybody.

Using mentally ill as an insult is terrible, because it diminishes their humanity. With mentally ill goal should be to see they can have as much life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as possible in their lives. Our goal should to help them deal with their situation, not to make them like us.

I don't want to insist Trump supporters to oppose Trump for the right reasons. I want Trump supporters to despise Trump for misleading and betraying him, because that is the only thing that can pressure Republicans in Congress.

I don’t care half as much how the Democrats not fighting enough as I do about their not drawing blood. How they do it is secondary to everything else right now. I liked Slotkin's response because I thought it would draw blood. I am neutral about Al Green because I don't see it having much effect.

I think the key message the Democrats should be sending is they are the only adults in the room and they care for you. Democrats have never had an opportunity to send this message as there is now. It also has the advantage of being true, so there is no need for rhetorical tricks.

Asking Zelinski if he wears a suit reminds me of a story about Lincoln and Grant. Advisors come to Lincoln concerned about Grant's drinking. Lincoln tells them to find out which whiskey Grant drinks and send it to all his other generals.

Very smart people fall for really dumb ideas. Musk's main skill is promoting projects and getting to them. He was good at seeing the market of his EVs and uses for SpaceX. It is this skill and luck rather than genius that is responsible for his success. Edison pursued some dumb ideas too.

I grew up with relatively lenient parents. They used discipline sparingly. I think it made me very self disciplined, because it made me listen to my conscience and take responsibility for my actions. The job of a parent is to prepare a child for being an adult and not just following orders.
