The Delta Flat Pass/Pitch-Up Break is the final maneuver of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels demonstration. It is quite special to see as each plane individually pitches up one at a time spacing themselves equally and positioning to land.

F-100 Super Sabre & Air Force Thunderbirds Diamond! This particular F-100 has a new owner and was originally planned to fly at the Terre Haute Air Show, but they don’t have a certified pilot yet, so it was just on static display.

One of the iconic maneuvers of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds is the Echelon Pass in Review where the four diamond pilots swing in from the left in a stacked formation. This makes them appear as one plane during part of the pass from the perspective of the crowd.

The first time I saw Redline Air Shows was at SUN ‘n FUN in April of 2025. I have seen them several times since. It’s great seeing them every time. Ken and Austin Rieder do a fabulous job performing in their Van’s RV-8 experimental aircraft during the day as well as at night.

Air Force Thunderbirds solos flying the paint off at the Terre Haute Air Show! Here’s some solos action with Lead Solo Major Laney “Rogue” Schol and Opposing Solo Major Bryce “Triple” Turner. If you look at the second image, you can see Rogue is literally flying the paint off the tail.

The Jack Aces Formation Aerobatic Team puts on quite an impressive show with their three P-51 Mustangs. The Jack Aces pilots are Louis Horschel, Ariel Luedi, & Marco Rusconi. Areil comes all the way from Switzerland to fly in the shows in the U.S. Macro is from Canada, and Louis is in the U.S.

Besides fireworks, planes shooting fireworks from the wings, drones shows, and epic pyro explosions, another neat thing about night shows is you get to see planes flying at twilight along with flying and static images with sunset colors. Here are a few examples from the Terre Haute airshow.

Opposing Horizontal Rolls: Even at 1/2000 of a second, you aren’t going to get two planes with a close rate of 750-800mph in focus. I will focus on one plane to track and then adjust the shutter speed with various values to adjust the amount of blur of the opposing plane.

The Blue Angels Diamond Dirty Loop is a very impressive maneuver because they do the entire loop with the landing gear and hooks extended, or “dirty”, which requires a lot more control than if they were flying aerodynamically clean. This was from the Spirit Of St. Louis Air Show & STEM Expo.

The final maneuver the U.S. Navy Blue Angels perform to end their demonstration is the Delta Pitch-Up Break. Each aircraft pitches out of the formation and turns away from the crowd for landing. For this maneuver, they typically fly 200’ above the ground and 500’ from the crowd line.

Korean War Hero at SUN ‘n FUN: Jim Tobul’s “Korean War Hero” F4-U4 Corsair was on static display and participated in the demonstrations at SUN ‘n FUN. I love being able to get up close and see these amazing machines that helped define our history.

Making History: On March 30th, Thunderbird # 8, Major Samuel “RaZZ” Larson, and # 8 DCC SSgt Justin Weidner, executed the first-ever F-16 touchdown at Richard B. Russell airport in Rome, Georgia. Thanks to the runway expansion, the Thunderbirds are now able to land at Richard B. Russell airport.
