if you're in my position you understand that there is no such thing as failure, only perseverance. A series of "No" is not a reflection of anything. It's too easy to look at history as a period of time and not people living in the present. You keep putting things out there to stay present

So yeah, it's a big rant to say I'm not feeling so good right now. I swear this new cut will be the one that hits, I can't cut the movie down anymore. I feel trapped because even marketing the movie is dependent on a festival run because we are independent.

There is something to be said about being quicker about your process because once you have the piece of art, you can't predict where the audience is; so this would be common for any film or piece of cinema without big names. I'm not sure I can take the time I took with this one again?

This is HARD FOR ME. I spent more time writing this script than any other script. I put in more care into making sure this thing got across the finish line than really any other film. Carrying this thing without the support I thought we would get makes it significantly more difficult.

I love an "Elevated Thriller" as much as the next person, but we went for a genre festival run this fall, with some additional other reaches and just struck out across the board. This is so frustrating for multiple reasons, but principally because I think the film is important.

I will say that this has been a total nightmare for me. I showed it to a bunch of people, they all loved it and thought it was smart. That's because I believe that genre filmmaking can also be about important issues by showing a specific series of events laid out in real time.

Well needless to say this cut of the film fucking failed hard. I thought we could do a 90 minute cut of this movie but APPARENTLY NOT. So I cut the whole thing down to 86 minutes. Why? Because it's a slow burn thriller, the audience doesn't know what's going on so the sooner stuff happens the better

When asked how it’s been for him to see the series transform since its indie beginnings way back in 1981 with director Sam Raimi, Campbell revealed his one issue with the recent installments.

“I’d like more humor back in. The three features have been mostly humorless, and I personally have a problem with that,” he said, echoing a sentiment shared among some of the franchise’s fans. “There’s no point for these to get too grim. You can be scary without being grim.”

“A little more humor wouldn’t kill you,” he added. “And one hero that you really can root for. Ash is an idiot, but you want him to survive.”

“Modern filmmakers love to color their movies like a David Fincher movie, like a hospital room, you know?” Campbell continued. “Gray-green, like a garage. Garage lighting. And so, okay, it’s a choice. It’s not mine. I think even a horror movie can look pretty. Why not throw them off? Make it all look pretty and wonderful, and then let them have it.”
