David Pendleton @davidpendleton.bsky.social · 26/08/2026Heading to the British Society of Sports History conference at Edinburgh. I’m giving a paper on The Hull Handball League. Founded by a German Jewish GP who fled the Kristallnacht and a Dutch submariner. It lasted 6 years, but it had two divisions, a junior section and played international games. 020
David Pendleton @davidpendleton.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Wednesday is club night at the Scarborough Sub Aqua. Visitors always welcome, it’s a treasure trove of decades of diving the Yorkshire coast. 000
David Pendleton @davidpendleton.bsky.social · 19/08/2026A rare event for the summer of 2026. Match abandoned due to rain at Scarborough Cricket Club. 000
David Pendleton @davidpendleton.bsky.social · 19/08/2026I arrived at Scarborough station to find a crowd gathered around a charter train. I’m a similar age to the locomotive and it’s considered a classic. But like me it’s still working! 030
David Pendleton @davidpendleton.bsky.social · 15/08/2026Bradford bound. Another football season, my 55th I think! The youngster who peered over the Kop wall would be astonished that I’m not walking to the ground, or at least a short bus ride. But life, like the long season ahead has some surprising twists and turns. 040
David Pendleton @davidpendleton.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Last Friday we unveiled the long lost Scarborough cricket club memorial. Years of research by Fred Fox and latterly myself. Club president Sir Geoffrey Boycott did the honours. #crickethistory #scarborough 000

David Pendleton @davidpendleton.bsky.social · 22/07/2026If the Kinks had a particular lazy summer afternoon in mind, they’d do worse than this one. Over 50s Yorkshire v Durham at Scarborough 010
David Pendleton @davidpendleton.bsky.social · 21/07/2026Thousands at Scarborough or 50 over format that has been wilfully neglected. Two county teams with deep histories, as opposed to franchise #hundered nowhere teams. The world’s gone mad. 020

David Pendleton @davidpendleton.bsky.social · 15/04/2026Ended the day with a maritime pub crawl, book buying and picked up a copy of the journal that had published my article about baseball in 1930s Scarborough. The weather joined in by lurching from one extreme to the other. 000
