Fascinating! "The complaint reads, at times, as an unintelligible collection of words and claims." (occasionally relatable when grading) "The same qualities that make these tools useful make them dangerous to the careless and available to the dishonest." (very relatable)

Teaching a class on genAI has been a delight this semester. Since some asked, here's a public version of my in-class GenAI Metaphor Tournament activity and its corresponding LLM (Large List o' Metaphors). I made it OER, so use it if you like! go.wisc.edu/wl16k5.

Which games do should students experience in a game studies program? Favorites, influential ones, historic, exemplars... all are fair criteria! Context: I'm teaching a class Games & Libraries this fall but also just want to see people's favs.

The world is awful. The world is much better. The world can be much better. All three statements are true at the same time. Understanding this is key to solving big global problems. We believe data & research can help us understand both the problems we face & the progress that’s possible. 🧵

My students and I talked today about useful/not AI metaphors today (calculator for words was controversial) - I love to see the visual side of that as well! (I also have a weakness for robot imagery but at least am self-aware enough to call myself out on overused symbolism when I do)

Metaphors for AI are fascinating - what's the most interesting you've come across? E.g., stochastic parrots, distorting carnival mirror, digital microplastics, blurry JPEG of the web, sketchy and forgetful intern, etc.
"Photorealistic image of a funhouse-style carnival mirror with a tall, wavy, and uneven surface, designed to distort reflections. The mirror reflects the vibrant text 'AI' in a bold, futuristic font, its reflection stretched, compressed, and warped in a playful yet slightly uncanny manner. The mirror is framed in ornate, vintage-style wood with a weathered carnival aesthetic. The background depicts a lively carnival scene, with strings of colorful lights, blurred crowds, and festive booths, creating a surreal and dynamic atmosphere that highlights the metaphor of AI as both a reflection and distortion of reality."
