My friend Shaun has written a great piece on this recent photograph of a Black woman surrounded by masked men, and the ripples of meaning that spread from it. 'The camera had recorded a fraction of a second. The meanings attached to that fraction of a second accumulated rapidly afterwards.'

The afterlife of a photograph
When a photograph becomes iconic, what happens to the person inside it? A reflection on memory, recognition and photography's ethics.

RDR has a lot of what I look for in a game - character, story telling and a fine eye for detail but something just didn’t connect. I’ve enjoyed one or two RE games but most of them I could leave. The PS5 is pretty well catered for games like RDR. Ghosts of Tsushima is truly epic, for example

I never got on with it but no doubt it deserves its place in the gaming pantheon - just wasn’t my cup of tea. Horizon Zero Dawn and its sequel are masterpieces btw. Not that you’d asked 😀

an abandoned house in some grass with a body of water behind. The sky is blue with wispy white cloudsa very green hill with a bungalow, abandoned but still mostly whole, with a smaller ruined outbuilding off to the side. The sky is very cloudy and dramatica ruin with no roof and very little left, standing on a hill, with dark dramatic stormy skies behinda sunny warm day with a ruin with no roof, which is fenced off. In the foreground is some old metal farming equipment. The grass around is yellow and scrubby, that of a hot dry summer

This is stunning work by Shaun, honoured to call him a friend. We were lucky enough to travel to Cardiff recently to see this exhibited. An insight filled with love and respect.

Here is the progress on my latest commission. This cross is for the church in Llantrisant in oak salvaged from the church's bell tower which is undergoing refurbishment. The rays will be gilt with 24K gold and Oak will be fitted in between them.

You have to wonder just how many more people have to die before something is done. The answer would appear quite a few. Aside from all the many many issues with mass gun ownership there’s the realisation that guns are products and that someone somewhere is profiting from all this death.

Sometimes the world can seem a difficult and confusing place and it seems easy to give up hope of things ever getting better. But then I'm reminded that Wotsits has an extensive and detailed entry on Wikipedia. For some reason this gives me hope. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wotsits

The original batch of these sold out really quickly so I'm just seeing if there's an appetite for a second run somewhere around late October, so that you can buy them in time for Christmas gifts? Let me know and if there's enough interest then I'll work on getting some done by then :). #Photography

There’s that thing about a famous golfer, who when asked home come they were so lucky, replied with something like, ‘funnily enough, the more I practice, the luckier I get….’ May have got that wrong but it sounds right.

If you can find on streaming, ‘Local Hero’ directed by Bill Forsyth - a beautiful comedic slice of calm whimsy in the maelstrom that is the current situation.

Sadly, I cannot. I'd been photographing the interiors of vacant shops and these chairs happened to be there. Other people have asked about them and the consensus seems to be that they're 60/70s design. I'll have to try and find out more.

A view of a car park over pass. A high rise building can seen in the background. On the right hand side of the frame is a bush and on the left is a fence. There was a vague smell of wee.A view looking upwards - a fairly vacant looking building with an old British Rail sign at the top. Felt more like the 1970s and less like the 2020s. Vague smell of coffee - Costas nearby.A word looking clock outside the train station - like a ball stuck in a tree. I’ve already mentioned the coffee smell.A view towards the bus station - now deserted. People can seen walk through an alleyway between the bus station and an office block. No doubt going to wait for buses that will never arrive. Very strong smell of wee and weed.

Some photographs from my on going occasional sometimes project about wandering around beaches every now and then. I might call the project ‘Shoreline’ but maybe not…..
Some elaborate metalwork in silhouette against a plain bright sky.Two bits of wood - might’ve been something else (didn’t check) - emerging from the sand and water.A pair of razor shells on the sand. Sometimes referred to as razor clams (I did not know this). The posh name for them is Ensis magnus.

On my work travels I occasionally encounter hotels used for housing asylum seekers and I can confirm they are pretty grim. Then there’s the people outside abusing them…..
