The first international break a good opportunity to see how far along Liverpool are in their attempts to adapt to a new brand of football under Andoni Iraola. Lots of progress but also some distance left to travel. youtu.be/1AKLUE-4a6A?...

If we accept that Florian Wirtz has yet to live up to expectations at Liverpool, the only question that matters now is if he ever will. Here's a look for signs that more is coming from a player who has, we must remember, only just turned 23. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1qO...

On a weekend that saw Chelsea and Arsenal chewed up by Brentford and Brighton, you get a real sense of just how good a three points that is for Liverpool on the road. It was a battle, but the main positive was how they kept Bournemouth from creating anything truly clear cut.

A pretty poor game of football that showed Liverpool are still a work in progress under their new head coach. Just never looked like they could replicate the intensity of midweek and paid the price for it with two dropped points.

We’ll probably only get a clear picture of Richard Hughes’ Liverpool legacy across the next couple of seasons given how much change he oversaw. But the Scot never seemed to view Anfield as a destination, as evidenced by the nature of his departure. www.davidlynchlfc.co.uk/p/time-will-...

Time will decide Hughes’ complex legacy but communication undermined him

Many Liverpool fans have welcomed the departure of the club’s sporting director, but now probably isn’t the time to judge him.

Liverpool confirm that sporting director Richard Hughes has stepped down from his role. Hughes expected to join Al Hilal but Liverpool satisfied he worked for them alone across summer transfer window, despite speculation to the contrary. Process to appoint a successor under way.

1191

He was a bit of a surprise selection ahead of Dominik Szoboszlai but Ronald Araujo was excellent at right-back tonight. Won 9/10 duels, was always in the right place at the right time, and seemed to balance out the team. Surely has to keep his place. www.youtube.com/watch?v=63kt...

Vital for Andoni Iraola and Liverpool to get that first win of the season on board - and a deserved one, too. Think the manager will be particularly pleased with how the second half turned into a non-event after all the hard work had been done in the first nine minutes.

Why amused? The manager himself not only called it poor but said it lost Liverpool the game. I don't think he was doing a comedy set!

010

Liverpool have been open to selling Cody Gakpo all summer, but only as part of a strategy that strengthens them. My understanding is that the club don't believe Bradley Barcola alone would satisfy that aim, and so they require another forward signing to sanction a departure.
