The Champions League back at Anfield and a big night for Andoni Iraola in particular.

Back to it for Andoni Iraola’s Anfield debut.

Mohamed Salah not involved today but is in attendance at Anfield and has stopped to sign autographs for fans.

A perfect view of proceedings.

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 19/04/2026

A magnificent setting for a huge game. Both teams pushing for European places, but no fan in here will be thinking about the bigger picture come kick-off. All about bragging rights, particularly in the first Merseyside derby here.

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 14/04/2026

It’s a long shot, but I’ve seen plenty of less talented sides pull those off down the years here. If Liverpool can get the first goal, this place will explode.

Today feels like a big opportunity for Liverpool to show they can get their attack going again after recent struggles and unpick the sort of low block they face most weeks.

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 01/01/2026

A big opportunity for Liverpool to earn some breathing room in the top four race, and even close in on third-placed Aston Villa. Can they take it?

2210

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 27/12/2025

Liverpool’s results have clearly improved of late but it’ll only feel sustainable if they start playing a little better. Today a really good chance to do that.

1142

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 13/12/2025

If Tuesday's win over Inter was something for Liverpool to build on, then today is the day to actually do it. Only three points to the top four, but that gap will only grow if there isn't a sustained improvement soon.

0241

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 08/12/2025

Mohamed Salah involved in training ahead of Liverpool’s visit to Inter.

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 22/11/2025

Liverpool's next nine league fixtures see them face teams with an average position of 14th. If they are to turn this season around, now is the time to do it.

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 04/11/2025

Miserable conditions here at Anfield for the visit of Real Madrid. That might suit Liverpool, who will be looking to make it as hostile as possible for their illustrious visitors this evening.

2270

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 01/11/2025

Anfield under the lights for what feels like a big one. For all the mitigating factors, Liverpool can’t keep losing games.

3240

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 29/10/2025

Liverpool set for a rare Anfield outing that they could probably do with winning tonight. Expecting a team selection aimed more at preparing for a big week ahead, though.

090

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 19/10/2025

Just the 20 English league titles for the two teams involved today. If Liverpool want to make it 21, they could probably do with a performance today.

1140

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 23/09/2025

Expecting plenty of changes for Liverpool at Anfield this evening but, such is the depth of their squad, it’ll be a strong team either way.

A grey day on Merseyside for the derby.

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 17/09/2025

I know not everyone is a fan of this Champions League format, but it throws up big games nice and early. A tough start for Liverpool tonight against Atletico Madrid.

There’s no such thing as a title decider in August, but you suspect the points on offer today might matter when they’re totted up in May.

BREAKING: Andy Robertson has been confirmed as Liverpool's new vice-captain. Arne Slot: "He's played here so many years, won the league twice. He's a very good player, plays many games, knows what it takes, but also knows the culture of the club and the dressing room."

Newcastle United have released a statement explaining that they do not see the conditions for the sale of Alexander Isak being met this summer. They also deny any agreement being reached with the player to allow him to leave.

Another season reporting on Liverpool, and this time they start as reigning Premier League champions. Can they defend their title? Only nine months until we find out.

Back at the home of the champions for a final tune-up before the Community Shield. Back-to-back games and so there’s sure to be a lot to take from today.

Wrote this on Luis Diaz last week. Liverpool’s stance remains the same - they are not actively looking to sell and only a sizeable bid would change things. You’d also imagine the player might push given there are no plans to give him a new deal. www.davidlynchlfc.co.uk/p/who-will-l...

This is what Liverpool winning the Premier League looked like last time, and what it looks like now. I'd say that second picture is slightly more aligned with the dreams of every Liverpool fan over the last three decades.

Virgil van Dijk’s calls for Liverpool fans to wear red today appear to have been heeded. So with the dress code sorted, Liverpool now just need the result to kickstart a summer-long party.

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 13/04/2025

Anfield looking utterly glorious ahead of another big one for Liverpool. Three wins needed to clinch the Premier League title - can they get one today?

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 02/04/2025

Liverpool have had two and a half weeks to stew on those disappointing results against PSG and Newcastle. What better way to get that week out of the system than a Merseyside derby that can move them a step closer to winning the title?

It’s a bit of a grey day for a cup final, but what a venue this is.

0500

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 11/03/2025

While Liverpool are leading this tie coming into tonight, they’re going to have to play infinitely better than the first leg if they are to stand a chance of getting through. But this is Anfield, surely they will.

Cody Gakpo back in training ahead of Liverpool’s meeting with PSG tomorrow.

41033

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 08/03/2025

Unbelievably pleasant day at Anfield, where Liverpool will take on Southampton shortly. But Arne Slot is keen for the fans to make it as hostile as possible for the first of “three cup finals”.

2512

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 05/03/2025

Liverpool had luck and Alisson Becker to thank for the fact they weren't losing heavily at half-time tonight but, as this shot map shows, they genuinely defended well in the second half. PSG mustered just 0.41xG from 15 shots after the break. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVAX...

510215

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 04/03/2025

No sign of Cody Gakpo in training ahead of Liverpool’s trip to PSG. Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez not involved, as expected.

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 26/02/2025

A gruelling and potentially decisive run of five games in 15 days ends with the visit of Newcastle to Anfield. Virgil van Dijk says Liverpool “need our fans to be on fire from the first whistle”.

0430

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 16/02/2025

On paper, this is Liverpool’s kindest fixture of the really tough run they’re in, but football rarely works like that. A good performance needed to beat a Wolves side who have shown improvement of late.

0523

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 12/02/2025

What a privilege to be at the last ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park. Worked my first match as a football journalist here 14 years ago and will really miss the place. An iconic stadium.

3503

David Lynch @davidlynchlfc.co.uk · 06/02/2025

Liverpool with plenty of work to do if they are to reach Wembley tonight but, with the form Arne Slot’s team are in plus the Anfield factor, you’d be daft to bet against them.
