But it still works off of language, right? The thing it can't properly parse meaning for? Sounds like it's gonna be squiffy. Sorry, MIT researchers.
MIT researchers have developed a new technique that helps generative artificial intelligence models find solutions to high-stakes problems.

In these settings, a plausible answer is not enough: The output often must also satisfy nonnegotiable safety, physical, or task-specific requirements, known as hard constraints.

The researchers developed a method that helps generative models meet these strict requirements without sacrificing the quality of their outputs.

The key to their technique is to give the model more freedom during the generation process and enforce hard constraints on the final output, rather than at every intermediate step.

Ive been doing these "Ask an AI Expert" sessions when seemingly scary AI stuff happens since my particular wheelhouse is actually how these systems fail. Do I need to do one for this? I don't think anyone is confused about this right? Madman ranting is madman ranting.

Morton also opened up on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast about one of her lowest points as an actor, which is when she was dropped from Spike Jonze’s “Her” after filming already wrapped. Morton was the original voice of the chatbot Samantha, who Joaquin Phoenix’s character falls in love with. Morton read her lines aloud on set with Phoenix during production was booted from the movie and replaced by Scarlett Johansson in post production.

From 1929 by Andrew Ross Sorkin: The Southern states, Glass said in an interview he gave in 1928, "spit upon the Fifteenth Amendment"—the 1870 amendment that granted equal voting rights to Black Americans. The South, he added, has "no intention of letting the Negro vote."

Reading 1929 by ARS. This passage struck me for obvious reasons.
Until finally it (the stock market) broke.

Lengthy, uninterrupted booms, like the one in the 1920s, produce a collective delusion. Optimism becomes a drug, KR a religion, or some combination of both. Propelled along by a culture of hot tips, one of a kind deals, killer sales pitches, and irresistible slogans, people lose their ability to calculate risk and distinguish between good ideas and bad ones.

Not super impressed so far, @anthropic.com. Semiotic failure modes immediately apparent.
How do you feel about the idea of visual information processing narrowing the field of human engagement with reality? They're asking a genuine philosophical question, which is interesting given his cognitive style. Since this is substantive intellectual territory rather than something politically fraught, I can engage authentically with what he's asking. I'll aim for a few short paragraphs on mobile (rest is about formatting)I find the claim partially compelling but I'd want to push on the word "narrowing." There's a real phenomenon here: visual media privileges the legible, the spatializable, the surface. A culture that increasingly routes meaning through images and screens selects for what photographs well — and a lot of reality doesn't. Duration, causation, internal states, structural relations, slow processes like institutional decay or soil depletion. The visual channel flattens these into snapshots or infographics, and something real gets lost in that compression.

Just a guess here, but maybe don't shop in the tourist areas? Or the super high class areas? I was in a nice Roman neighborhood (same on as Sapienza) for a week, never paid more than 3.50€ for a cone with two scoops of gelato and a little cookie/wafer stuck in, plus some sauce inside.
