Palace of Westminster is a dump. A crumbling museum. Any other country would knock it down and build something functional.

We have a government elected with a majority of 172 on a vote percentage of just under 34% on a turnout of 60 + percent…….. all in the context of widespread tactical voting….. and that’s the “public” speaking? Most votes have little impact

It is very difficult to predict how people would vote under different systems or how rapidly the major parties would split. But fptp fuels adversarial politics. PR would force cooperation between different parties.

If it’s your only pension it is a grim prospect. Worth pointing to the failure of the private pension schemes pushed by the Thatcher government. The private sector was meant to innovate, which it did but only in its creative ways of ripping off the customers.

Realism is that the powerful will use these type of narratives to excuse lack of meaningful action. We sail past two degrees and buy air conditioning that helps us aim for that three degree goal. An assumption this will take a long time makes it seem fine to accept four degrees.

That’s a planning issue and doesn’t undermine the need for them. We are about to have a gigantic solar farm right next to us. Should I complain? We need them - they are not pretty but are quiet.

By use cases I assume you mean what we actually need the extra capacity for. So - NHS patient records and medical imaging, banking and payments, government services, cloud computing and storage, cybersecurity, communications, scientific research and modelling, and yes, AI. There is no going back.

They are a year old but the principle applies. If you want to debate with me on here you need data centres. If you don’t want them in the UK prepare to be run by US or Chinese companies. This isnt an easy problem

Government publish data on centre energy consumption and water use. This stuff is now part of critical national infrastructure and doesn’t use the amount of water people claim. It’s become a way to fight the billionaire tech tossers. Not a good one - try this www.gov.uk/government/p...

These reports examine how the growth of digital services, and the data centres that support them, affects energy consumption in the UK.

I'm minded to rename the culture wars 'The Edge Case Wars'... Brexit: c.1.4% of all voters swung the vote to Leave. Pre-Brexit sovereignty complaints: Clinical Trials (that the EU then fixed) ECHR migration 'rage' cases: just 16 lost over many decades Covid vaccine harm: c.0.05% of the vaccinated

He’s absorbed the Corbyn supporters and activists from Labour, picked up a lot of young voters and walked into all the problems and divisions that beset Corbyn. At a time of climate crisis the Greens need a more substantial leader capable of governing and of persuading the country this is serious.

Maybe it’s better not to click so enthusiastically when you want to be taken seriously as a political leader. He isn’t great at the job and it will be the Greens who get rid of him not the hypocritical snowflakes in the right.

This is the kind of childish crap student Marxists push. Large corporations fund journalists and politicians to push this argument so they don’t have to pay taxes, can cut wages, environmental standards and civilisation……

Possibly but that’s not easy to organise and then Farage would claim the ‘establishment’ were behind them. The farcical nature of this election is undermining his image. I get the impression he will win whatever happens, but beating a bin isn’t the achievement it might look like.
0510
David Clayton @davidjclayton.bsky.social · 14/07/2026
The first sentence is wrong. It was a good idea to turn the by-election called by Farage into a joke. When the proper by-election following a successful petition follows we can take that one seriously. Meanwhile you need a heart of stone to not find the prospect of Farage being beaten by a bin.

Yes it is. No it won’t. That’s my in depth analysis Yes it is as debt servicing costs still remain manageable relative to GDP. No it won’t as Britain has survived far higher debt ratios - after ww2 it was enormous. The big question is how do we improve it?
