NEW: In March the White House released an FY27 budget request that zeroed out the National Science Foundation's directorate of Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE). For months it was unclear what would happen. Now, with FY26 over, the damage to SBE is coming to light. My reporting:

No. A few students in the US protested. I was on the Columbia campus and I saw the camp. Most of the students just went about their business. Here in France, it’s all the school and many more students.
An outdoor view on the Columbia University campus under an overcast sky features a lawn filled with dozens of green, orange, and blue camping tents set up during a student encampment. Small Palestinian flags line the hedges bordering the grass, while a tall, bare tree with sparse reddish leaves stands near the center foreground. In the background, Low Memorial Library with its distinct dome and classic columns looms over the plaza, alongside surrounding brick campus buildings. On the right side, individuals stand or sit along stone ledges near metal barricades and stacked materials near the paved walkway.

That time when I drove by some giant pumpkins and one got in the backseat.
A roadside pumpkin stand displays rows of large orange pumpkins on wooden benches covered with straw, with a handwritten “MARKET” sign across the weathered shelter; several people browse the pumpkins, and a white building, green lawn, trees, and open fields are visible in the background under a partly cloudy sky.

This is a joke. Please don’t @ me. It’s horrifying, and it’s another way that LLMs usage will waste a lot of people’s time. The natural endgame is LLMs creating proposals, reviewing them, “doing research”, creating papers, reviewing them, and everything will be mediocre.
