#WeekendSingles I found a seller on Discogs selling insanely cheap pop singles and I couldn’t stop myself. Thankfully I was never cool to begin with…

7” singles by Elton John, RAH Band, Midge Ure and Vesta Williams.

The amazing I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper by Sarah Brightman on 7”.

7” singles by Alarm, Kim Appleby and Boy George.

#CDFriday #MusicSky Didn’t buy many CDs/LPs this summer, but when @philk282.bsky.social recommends something, I usually follow his advice (and I’m never disappointed). 👍🏼

CDs by Nara Leao, Laura Veirs, Julia Holter, FSOL, Tara Clerkin Trio and Bob Stanley’s latest compilation.

Sadly, one year on and we’re having the same phenomenon in Crete. I keep checking that I haven’t grown horns or something. Same shit, different country 🤯

#BirthdayNumber1Top10 10 - Doctor & the Medics - Spirit in the Sky 17-y-o me was very impressed by the Doctor and even more impressed by the Brits sending this to number one in may 1986. I miss the days of novelty records going to number one and making purists mad. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrUo...

#BirthdayNumber1Top10 8 - Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance with Somebody I’ve tried something more contemporary (both GB’s Crazy and Umbrella had to be discarded for different reasons), but in the end I had to go back to 1986 for this infectious slice of cheesy pop. www.youtube.com/watch?v=eH3g...

#BirthdayNumber1Top10 7 - Blondie - Sunday Girl Sunday Girl had the unenviable task to follow up Heart of Glass, a song so popular even your granny knew it. It fared well enough to hit #1 in the UK (on my tenth birthday), but your granny maybe didn’t know it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VWa...

#BirthdayNumber1Top10 6 - Tammy Wynette - Stand by Your Man Number one in 1975, almost seven years after it was released in the States: a bit of a camp classic and an enjoyable karaoke staple if one ignores the slightly problematic, trad-wife lyrics. www.youtube.com/watch?v=AM-b...

#BirthdayNumber1Top10 2 - Billy Bragg with Cara Tivey - She’s Leaving Home Continuing with the Beatles theme: this was at number one (May 88) because of Wet Wet Wet, obviously, but Billy and Cara’s version of SLH is what I bought it for. Billy remains one of my favourite humans to this day.

7” of She’s Leaving Home/With a Little Help..

#WeekendSingles #AlbumAlmanac I don’t think anyone who knows me would be surprised to know I have five copies of The Queen Is Dead. Electronic Sound came with Scritti Politti 7”, so had to get it. Also, couple of new 12”s and some summer faves with Cola Boy and the Coconuts.

12” singles by Scritti Politti and Heaven 17.

The Queen Is Dead by the Smiths: box set, LP, 10” LP, CD and cardboard sleeve CD.

A copy of the latest issue of Electronic Sound magazine with Green Gartside on the cover and a copy of the 7” single it came with, featuring Scritti Politti’s WOOD BEEZ and Perfect Way.
