If you ranked my possessions by the amount of time they’ve been within arm’s reach, this pocket Constitution (which I’ve owned for more than half my life) comes in just after my wedding band. On this #ConstitutionDay may we realize the ideal of a nation ruled by laws, not men. No Kings; no tyrants!
A hand holds a small, well-worn paperback copy of The U.S. Constitution and Fascinating Facts About It. The book’s cover features a bold yellow rectangle with the title in blue text, set against a background patterned with the American flag—red and white stripes with a blue field and white stars. The edges of the book are bent and creased, showing signs of frequent handling. The person holding it wears a red sleeve, and the background is a plain dark surface.

Bookending the day with good food. Nothing has upped my homemade pizza game more than the use of parchment paper. It tastes better when you know the dishes are easy. ;)

Lazy Sunday’s remain the best. We take turns picking music to play each weekend while we read the paper, and today the 7yo chose They Might Be Giants. 🤘

17 summers ago, we hiked out to this point to watch the sunset, and I asked her to marry me. 🥰 This was the view last night.

Tonight we played the 7yo’s new board game: Narwhal Dance Party. Each player gets a narwhal sticker as a piece and draws a card to move. The majority of cards are variations on “[move] n spaces,” but sometimes there are special cards like “dance party” where everyone moves forward 2 spaces.
A child’s hand wearing a colorful beaded bracelet reaches toward a stack of homemade game cards placed on a hand-drawn board game. The board, drawn on white paper with thick black outlines, features looping paths colored purple, green, pink, and yellow, with spaces marked by circles and decorated with small character stickers. One visible card reads “7 Spaces.” The game rests on a wooden table, suggesting a creative homemade board game in progress or being played. Two handmade board game cards lie on a wooden table above four colorful narwhal character tokens cut from stickers. The left card, decorated with a small disco ball drawing, reads, “Dance Party – 2 Spaces Forward.” The right card, also topped with a disco ball, reads, “Dance Party – 2 Spaces,” but is clearly written by a child with “Spaces” misspelled. Below them are four cheerful narwhal cutouts in party-themed costumes: a narwhal dressed as a wizard, a narwhal wearing sunglasses beside a disco ball, a narwhal with a hula hoop, and a narwhal with flowers and a pink scarf.

Earlier this week I learned the 12yo didn’t know what a pinball machine was. Don’t worry. We have rectified the situation. Tonight he and his sister learned firsthand.

Sweaters were big in the 80’s (clipping found in a box in my grandparent’s closet)

The headline reads, “Colarusso tops science fair honors.” The article reports that David Colarusso won the overall primary division of the city-wide science fair, while Sally Chambers and Greg Hess tied for top honors in the intermediate division. Multiple columns below list award recipients across science fair categories. The clipping is laid flat on a wooden tabletop, with the date “2/7/88” handwritten in the upper-left corner.
