Interesting period. I thought Dallas was fighting the Blues' speed and transition ability more than they were fighting their own rhythm and rust. But despite the grime, they had moments.

Looks like Matt Duchene on LTIR opens up Hyry and Blackwell to be on the roster. LTIR means that Duchene will miss at least 10 games and 24 days. Tough break for the Stars but I'm eager to see the Steel-Hyry-Benn line in the interim.

Per Dallas, Casey DeSmith just signed a two-year extension for $5M, $2.5 in AAV. Excellent goalie. Struggles on the penalty kill and weak on rebounds, but that's about it.

Stupid ass trade for Columbus, regardless of the excuses. It's rare that GMs are actively "forced" into trading a player. Usually it's their bad decisions generating compound interest. Nothing more.

People call this hockey's era of player empowerment, and it's sort of that, but it's mostly just that the threshold on your lameduck GM who could get away with complaining about how hard his job was for a lot longer is now a lot lower.

Tough loss for Texas (possibly Dallas?). Remi Poirier looked strong enough to start seeing starts so this is a really good gamble by Sunny Mehta, especially given their status in net. Doesn’t warrant the doom I’m seeing, but this is definitely not the offseason Jim Nill would have preferred.
