My mom gave me this monk's hood at least 15 years ago and this is the first time it has bloomed. I'm really happy for it. Well done you poisonous bastard.

A photo of a monk's hood flower in my garden. Blue/violet trumpet-like flowers droop in a bunch over broad, green spikey leaves. There's a wooden fence behind it.

Blocked in the mushroom cloud. Underpainting so the fuchsia and pinks will tone down a lot. I think I'm going to rework the sky, keep some elements, change others. Simplify, but keep the rhythm. #art #painting

A large oil painting (3x6 feet) of a green plastic toy soldier on one knee taking aim with a rifle. It's on a crumpled Pabst Blue Ribbon beer can in the grass against an orange sunset. The can has a bullet hole in it. The can and soldier are at eye level, as though the viewer is lying on the grass looking straight ahead. Goldfish are flying about the sky like little putti. I'm in the midst of adding a towering nuclear mushroom cloud in the background.

Danes are good at public sculpture that mock oppressors. "Grisebrønden (Well of Pigs)", Aarhus, by Mogens Bøggild was installed in 1941 during Nazi occupation. They told the Germans that it was to celebrate industry (pork is big in Denmark), & the parable of the Prodigal Son, who lived among swine.

A bronze sculpture of a sow surrounded by peeing piglets on a thick table structure above a pool in a public square.

Just thought I should add this, probably relevant to my work in general: William Kurelek's "This is the Nemisis" (1965). I grew up seeing this painting at my local public gallery. Coming of age during Reagan this was both fascinating and nightmare fuel. The city being destroyed is my home town.

A painting showing a massive orange, yellow & white nuclear fireball destroying the city of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Amidst the ruined city a large brick chimney rises, topped by a figure skewered on a ladder silhouetted by the explosion. Another bomb explodes on the dark horizon.

The big painting was a combo of 2 of the small works from the series.

"Higher Ground (New Day Rising)", oil on canvas, 11x14", 2022- $850. A painting of a toy soldier atop a crumpled Pabst beer can, on one knee, taking aim with his rifle. The sky is bright, morning sun breaking through clouds.

"Strategic Target (Night Falls)", oil on canvas, 11x14", 2022- $850. A painting of toy soldiers capturing a Fisher-Price Chatterphone against a dramatic sunset.

This one was started in 2022 and abandoned. I knew what it needed but lacked the courage to get back to it. The "Backyard Apocalypse" works started explosions, but I edited them out as the series matured. Time to finish it.

A painting of a view of the maple tree & the tree of heaven behind it in my backyard with 2 red brick houses behind. The house on the left is obscured by branches & leaves, and in the bottom left corner vines cover the fence. The fence continues along the bottom edge to the right corner covered by greenery. Behind the fence is a taupe coloured vinyl sided shed in my neighbour's yard.

A painting of an apartment building, tall warm grey with columns of small windows & balconies against a cool blue sky. The right side of the building is facing the sunset, glowing warm yellow. In front of & blocking out most of the building is a large, green, leafy tree that gets darker towards the bottom. A red-leafed dogwood is in the foreground. A power line reflecting sunlight bisects the painting horizontally. At the top left there's a hint of an overhanging maple bough.
