David Baca @davidbaca.com · 16/09/2026September wild flowers. Flowering and decaying at the same time this late in the season. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 23/07/2026Rain shower over the Sangre de Cristo mountains at sunrise. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 08/07/2026On a blooming mullein flower a spider patiently waits for some pollinators to show up. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 07/05/2026My annual May ritual, photographing the blooming cacti in my yard. These are just a few of many. I really went wild this year and took lots of photos with different cameras and lenses. These were done with Nikon D300s and a Vivitar 28-70 manual focus lens from the 1980s. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 26/01/2026As chile ramen goes, this one is the stuff. This one has better noodles and left me in a state of chile beatitude with all nasal passages cleared of debris and a glowing warmth in my belly on a cold day. Sort of like living through a mini near death experience. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 26/11/2025King Crimson's first album, At the Court of the Crimson King. Robert Fripp when he was young. Another $1 dregs score, a surprising one because this one has some resale value. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 26/11/2025Los Feos de Columbia - The Ugly Guys from Columbia. Another dregs find, found in a stack of dollar records picked over by numerous collectors and dealers. Cumbia from 1980, the Spanish lyrics are filled with sexual innuendo. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 24/11/2025Another random jazz album. It's turned into one of my favorite random records bought over the last year. I've played it several times already. 1950s jazz is one of my favorite genres these days for random record buying. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 24/11/2025Random album cover. Flamenco from the early 1960s. This one was really worth a listen and I love the cover photo. Buying cheap vinyl is very competitive these days and I'm always finding gems in the dregs left by others. 241
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 24/11/2025Another Random Album Cover. This one came from a thrift store. I put it on the turntable thinking it would be cheesy but it wasn't. Almost any jazz album that Atlantic put out under Ahmet Ertegun is worth listening to. 010
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 24/11/2025Another random album cover. This is one of the few records left in the second week of a massive record collection sale. It's an anthology of cumbias from Medellin Columbia in the 1980s, the Pablo Escobar era. 14 danceable canon shots, better translated as 14 big dance hits. Cheerful music. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 21/11/2025Found right next to the Willie Nelson album, the Stone's Let it Bleed. Looks like they both came from the same yard sale. Appropriate because the Stones go country in this album and leave behind 60s pop. It's the Stones at the their most stoned for sure. 020
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 21/11/2025I think his record label of the time had something to do with it. He looks a lot better on the back side. His hair is already growing out and he's not doing the over produced 60s Nashville sound. He was already on the way but the label didn't want to publicize it. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 21/11/2025Willie Nelson in 1967 before cannabis. If anything promotes cannabis, it's this album cover. Unfortunately, the album inside is warped and scratched like it was played 6000 times at drunken parties. The music is pretty straight forward honky tonk country, not all that different from later Willie. 020
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 05/09/2025A baby king snake showed up in my yard this morning, not all that much bigger than an earthworm. A baby with an attitude. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 22/08/2025I had a full memory card in my camera, mostly photos of dogs. I've built a nice portfolio of dog photos and I'm an experienced dog photographer at this point. Here are a few. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 13/08/2025Crimson moon rising over Taos mountain. It turned more yellow as it rose. I wasn't expecting anything like this last night so I just grabbed a 500mm mirror lens and bumped up the ISO to shoot it hand held. It came out alright. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 30/07/2025Rainbow over the Taos Valley. An almost perfect shot but I didn't have a wide enough lens to capture the full double rainbow. Shot at 17mm, f8, 250 shutter speed for those interested in such details. Both exposure and focus were set manually. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 25/07/2025The Clash's London Calling. This record turned up rummaging through my stuff. I bought it sometime around 1984. It was in a $2 discount bin at Skaggs drug store. It was a great score at the time and I still enjoy listening to it after all these years. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 21/07/2025The weekend's yard sale haul, 4 books for a dollar, all serious scholarly material. I could have bought the whole box for $4 or 5 but I already have enough books that I'm never going to read so I restrained myself to books that actually interested me. 010
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 14/05/2025Barrel cactus blooming in my back yard. I caught it right at the beginning of the bloom cycle with the buds just starting to open. 010
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 12/05/2025I had some excitement on Sunday morning. Some horses got loose and came to munch the wild grass in my yard. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 09/05/2025My dog friend contemplating the view. I'm really pleased with this photo, it's the combination of the dog's expression and the wood grain. 020
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 09/05/2025The first rainbow of year in Taos, the valley of rainbows. This one lingered through the late afternoon until it merged with the sunset. 012612
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 03/05/2025This has been the first good yard sale day of the year. I've got tea and coffee covered. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 02/05/2025The tradition of the neighborhood dogs sleeping off all nighters in my yard continues. The torch has been passed to a new generation. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 19/04/2025Easter Bunny 3. And the third photo of this cottontail eating ragweed. This one shows his natural camouflage. If he wasn't behind something green, he'd be hard to see. 010
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 19/04/2025Easter Bunny 2. Second photo I took of this guy munching ragweed in my yard one spring morning when the light was just brilliant. 010
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 19/04/2025Easter Bunny. I just put all my photos in a new laptop, over 600 gigabytes going back 20 or so years so I'm going to start post random photos from the collection. This cottontail showed up in my yard one spring morning in 2020. 020
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 03/04/2025My latest random thrift store book, the 4 voyages of Columbus by Columbus. It's one of those fascinating books that no one ever reads. As I read about the Caribbean in 1492, it was in no way primitive. He describes huge intensely cultivated fields that resembled the ones outside of Cordoba Spain. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 24/01/2025I used to devour books, now I just nibble at them. I'm currently nibbling away at surrealist writing in 3 languages. Borges and Burroughs are equally surreal and surprisingly similar in many ways. Both write delicious prose and make surreal references to north and south American cultural artifacts. 010
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 14/01/2025I sent a dollar to Marvel Comics in 1976 for this button. Howard the Duck joined Betty Boop in the gallery of cartoon characters who ran for president. I was too young to vote and he lost to Carter who was a far better president than would have been. If he ran in 2024, It would a different story. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 16/12/2024A raven hanging out in my yard. All those old cartoons about them are basically true. 000
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 02/12/2024My reading list isn't for wussies. Among my current reads, two in French, Camus's posthumous book on the French Algerian colonial experience and a book of dense prose poems by Rene Char. Just as nonlinear as Char's prose poems is Burroughs's Exterminator. 010
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 25/11/2024Ok, more dog photos. This old dog passed away last summer, he was a gruff old hound dog who was hard to get friendly with but turned into a big puppy if he decided he liked you. 010
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 22/11/2024Photo post of the day, blooming barrel cacti from last May. I'm reposting some photos previously posted on Facebook and have decided to post them unwatermarked on Bluesky, just with the quality vastly reduced from the original jpegs. #flowers #crimson #photography 020
David Baca @davidbaca.com · 20/11/2024Horehound ghost photo. There was a stalk of dried grass in front of the horehound which was being moved by the wind and blocked enough light to give an illusion of transparency. Shot with my Sony A390 DSLR which is really good at these random artistic shots. My profile pic was also shot with it. 000
