Sorta like these?
A two-pack of Hostess Jumbo donettes. They are oversized donettes that are the size of...regular doughnuts.

Okay, too many posts about terrible things, so here's a Booby.
A Red-footed Booby: a large white seabird with black wingtips, a shockingly blue and red face, and feet that are, as suggested by the name, bright red. It's in flight with wings outstretched and shown against a blurry green background of the cliffs behind it.

Apparently today's today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BirdsUpClose. That's an easy one - gonna have to with this Mōlī Mōlī portrait. (Although it's tempting to pull out any of dozens of Nēnē portraits I have.)
Mōlī (Laysan Albatross) portrait: A closeup of a large seabird with a white head, grey cheeks with a dark eye, and a large orange bill tipped in black, set against an out of focus green background.

Sorry, too many politics or politically adjacent posts, so here's some bird penance. I really could watch these guys for hours and hours - so graceful in the air. And so very much not on land.
A Mōlī (Laysan Albatross) silhouetted against a cloudy sky with wings outstretched in a typical glide pattern, slowly cruising away into the distance.

Yeah, that checks out. The only thing surprising here is that none of them spell it "Petersen".
Screen capture from today's Wikipedia front page reading in the "did you know" section that reads:

"...that Ole Peterson served with Ole Peterson in the Minnesota House of Representatives, but should not be confused with fellow state legislator Ole Peterson?"

Too many posts involving how terrible things are, so here's a birb.

Long ago on the bad place this magnificent advice was available. You should take it to heart!

I keep having reasons to post this - saved from 2020 when the SF skies got especially funky. Dislike.

I'm close to the mood where I'm likely to just start ranting about multiple topics. No one really wants that. Instead - here, have a bird. This Bushtit is especially birby in this photo. I'm just stunned that one held still long enough for this level of accurate focus. #birb
A bushtit: a tiny fluff ball of a bird in light grey tints with a small black beak and a black eye in a quarter frontal pose with its head cocked to the side. It's resting on a twig with colorful blooms and the background is more small twigs that are out of focus. The focus is remarkable given that these guys never ever stay still.

At least it hasn't quite reached this yet? I sure hope it does not! (Saved from waaay back in 2020 when California was on fire and SF looked like something out of a video game.)

Tonight’s dinner is “what’s in the fridge I need to use up?” In this case it turned into miso-glazed sockeye over some fresh udon noodles. Definitely works for me - yum!

Ah, found it! Here's my best of that region. It's pretty noisy - really needs more signal. Pretty though!

I think context is a big big part of "what is a map". This image, for example, is most definitely a map. I sure can't read it nor do I understand it at all - just some sticks and rocks. But someone with the right context can look at one of these and actually sail between distant islands. Very cool!
A Polynesian stick map that describes islands, currents, and navigational methods. Well, probably. This image is from a google search so accuracy (versus just being something to sell to tourists) is highly speculative.

Apparently #Quackers is the theme today for #birdoftheday. So - here's a literal odd duck for all of you to consider!
An odd duck! It's got the yellow bill like a mallard, but the head is a coppery color. The breast is brown and the sides are grey. The back is white, and there's a black rump with a short pintail-ish set of tail feathers. It's probably a Mallard x Pintail hybrid - opinions welcome!

On Kauaʻi they can be found hanging out in the taro (kalo) fields.
ʻAlae keʻokeʻo showing the black body, red eye, and full white facial shield that makes it stand out in the middle of a drained but muddy kalo field. It's standing over the shell of an invasive snail species, alas.

Okay, too many serious posts. Here, have a birb. (This Spotted Dove was blissfully unaware of, well, anything at all and was just high-stepping across the lawn without a care in the world. Lucky bird.)
A Spotted Dove, with a grey crown, red eye, black bill, rosy-brown body, and a sprinkling of white spots on a black background on its neck, walks entirely care-free, thought-free, and essentially brain-free across a green lawn. There's a very out of focus Myna behind it. It's probably amused.

Back at Davies for the last concert of the season for me. They’ve got the organ console out so you know this is going to get loud later. (Saint-Saëns 3rd symphony, yay!)

I'm feeling kinda cranky. Instead of ranting, here, have a bird. (Mōlī are really very cool looking birbs!)
A close up "portrait" of a Mōlī (Laysan Albatross) showing its white head and neck, dark eye with smoky cheeks, large orange bill tipped in dark grey, and a bit of the grey 'shoulder' visible at the bottom, all set against an out of focus green background.

Too many recent posts about terrible things, so here's a nice photo of a Kōlea in penance. (Check the alt text for fun bird facts.)
A Kōlea (Pacific Golden-plover) standing on a green lawn in brilliant sunlight. It's a small shorebird that at first glance appears fairly drab but a closer look reveals very fine black and gold patterning that's really quite beautiful. And these guys are outstanding athletes. They spend the winter in Hawaii (where this photo was taken) and fatten up for the journey ahead. They then molt into their breeding colors which are much bolder than shown here and then fly _non-stop_ to Alaska in about 36 hours, losing a third of their body weight of about 12 ounces en route. Jaw-dropping stuff!

Apparently, today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #NegativeSpace. I've got a few of those that I like, but let's go with this Brown Pelican who's definitely Going Somewhere. I used this for the cover of one of my calendars since the space made for a great place to put a title. Pretty happy with this shot!
