Hammerheads' nose and taste are more refined because they can't focus very well on things close to their face. Don't hate on them.

Taiwan is affected by 5 or 6 Typhoons a year on average. Some are direct hits and some are near misses and some are just passing. In all cases most of the damage comes from the rain causing flooding and landslides. Wind damage, not so much.

We are talking about averages here. Remember Jamie Moyer's fastball was probably on about 80 mph. That brings the 2008 average way down.

I remember when the Giants and Dodgers moved west. This meant that we now had baseball on the radio in our timezone to listen to. John Cusack wouldn't be born for another 10 years. You haven't even reach middle age.

I was always afraid to say anything on their blog because DMZ would have fit if you misspelled a players name and hated poor grammar (which I still have).

Although not part of the sabermetric community, I do have bs (ms is more of the same and PHD is piled higher and deeper) degree in math and followed Cameron and Zumsteg on usnet in the 90's and U.S.S. Mariner in early 2000's when they started the blog. Maybe I could be an honorary member.

Ok, it's fall and this means that the tree outside of my apartment if flowering (blossoms appear in the fall, not the spring). So here is my annual fall blossom "festival" picture. This tree allows me to see pink cherry blossoms in spring and pink (I don't know what) blossoms in the fall.
A tree that has pink blossoms evey fall is in it's wonderful green leaf and pink blossom fall display.

See that's why we live in a cave. In winter one late January, the temp was -14 C. That's about 7 F. We arrived after 3 or 4 months being away and no heat. The cave was 11 C about 52 F. We turned on the heat, used a couple of space heaters and over 3 days we were at 21 C about 70 F.

Caves are not cold. Ours is 12 to 15 celcius year round. When we are there we heat to 21 or 22. Turn off the heat (hot water pipes in the floor). 4 or 5 days later the temp is down to 19 to 20 and the heat goes back on for 4 or 5 days. Same all year around.

I was not criticizing, I just find it a little amusing that after over 60 years, things that I learned as necessary to driving are no long necessary but are for biking. Just as a note, about 50 years ago I used to bike Seattle from West Seattle to Kent and back for work each day.

You realize that the bent up left arm comes from the old days when cars didn't have turn signals. With only the driver's side window to signal from all of the signals were done with the left arm.

Well, I do like William Powell's acting, though I have to admit that "the Thin Man" sequels were not as good as the first movie.

I don't know. 5 movies, 3 different male actors, 3 mysteries, and 2 comedies. There are many other 30's and 40's movies I like and have seen more that once but I am limited by age to before WW2.

David Upham @david-upham.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
For me it is probably a 5 way tie between those 2, The Thin Man, My Man Godfrey, and It Happened One Night. I really can't say which of those I have watched more.

We all talked about work and other general thing for an hour or so and then said goodbyes and went our separate ways. A week or so later on evening I got a call from him wanting to know if I want to go out on a date with him. I had to decline as my wife would probably not understand.

I was at a conference in S.F. met a lady I had know before at a different company that lived in the same city I did. Made plans to meet after returning from S.F. Were having coffee back home a week or 2 later when another friend of her's showed up.

I found a missing sock hidden under the bed. Threw it in the dirty clothes hamper, put the dirty clothes in the washer then the dryer. Took the clothes out of the dryer to fold and the sock was MISSING again. This happened in the course of one afternoon.

Taiwan has single payer health care. cut the palm of my hand badly when I fell on some broken glass at night. The hospital emergency room visit cost about US$15 for the glass removal and stiching. Meds were about $15 and the follow up stitch removal was about $1.50.

While I condemn everything Trump stands for, he said that he felt sorry for them because the appointed investigator was, in his words, dishonest. Thats different from feeling bad for them because they are being investigated although that's probably how he feels.

The only gambling I have done (exempting charity events) was 55-60 years ago when I played blackjack in Reno and Las Vegas. This was just before they cracked down on card counters. So the odds of winning were in my favor.

My mother grew up near Salmon Creek in White Center (now part of Burien). Maybe someone can restore the Salmon run there like they did in North Seattle.

I thing the phrase "Nobody drives the speed limit" applies here. I don't remember exactly when (probably when Carter set freeway speeds at 55) I saw a video taken when 2 vehicles occupying both lanes of a freeway where driving at the speed limit. The backup behind them was miles long.

When are they going to split up Clos Vougeot? It runs from Grand Cru close around the Chateau to Village vines or worse down along the bottom?

Come on, the s and the d are right next to each other on the keyboard. Trump's short fingers just can't always cover the gap. And at 80 (which I am over) fingers just don't work as well.

It would ruin my life. When I needed to know how many liters in 20 gallons I used to have to Google search find me and online web page to do the conversion for me. No Google AI (right at the top) gives me the answer of 295 liters so that I don't have to do any web site searching.

Many many years ago I listened to a HS football game played in a windstorm with 60 MPH wind gusts. A punter punted into the wind and the ball got caught by a wind gust and landed about 10 yards BEHIND the punter.

Just to let you know that what you may be wishing for in the future can come true. I was teaching night English classes in Taipei and met with and shook the hand of the then current Mayor of Taipei. He later became the President of Taiwan.
