Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 06/09/2026It’s been a traditional Labour Day weekend in Toronto - relaxing holiday activities with a background soundtrack of loud aircraft noises from the CNE air show. In a time of upheaval, it’s good to know that some things haven’t changed. 020
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 04/09/2026I’m still half-convinced that Doug closed the Science Centre because he is from Etobicoke and he thought that Don Mills and Eglinton was too far away. 010
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 04/09/2026I think Dougie is viscerally offended by the idea that somebody might pass him in a bike lane when he is stuck in traffic. He also hates non-suburban Toronto because we wouldn’t vote for him for mayor. He might also secretly envy people who are healthy and fit enough to ride. 000
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 02/09/2026Did a quick check of the windows in our place. No hail dents. Glad I wasn’t out in that. I don’t know what you do while a severe storm is raging outside, but my response was to play “Tennessee Bird Walk” badly on my guitar. And keep my phone handy so that I have a flashlight if the power goes out. 020

Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 04/04/2026I’ve always assumed that the whole bike lane thing started because Doug was stuck in traffic one morning, a bike zipped past him in its lane, and it pissed him off. I think he focuses solely on how things affect him. 110

Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 23/01/2026Carney stopped taking Ford seriously when he realized that Dougie really wanted to build three levels of tunnel under Highway 401. 010
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 12/11/2025It’s considered quite normal in our society for cars to drive onto the sidewalk so as to “not block traffic”. Cars have priority over pedestrians, including the woman with the walking sticks at right in this photo. (Car colour and license plate changed in image - this is a systemic problem.) 010
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 06/11/2025Wrote a comment on the Bill 60 page. I still think that all of this is happening because Doug Ford got stuck in traffic one morning, a cyclist passed him in a bike lane, and he got angry. He tends to think only about how things affect him personally. 0101
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 06/11/2025Doug Ford presumably thought of the tunnel idea all by himself and he isn’t smart enough to realize that it is totally unfeasible. And his ministers are too busy toadying to The Leader to question his judgement. I’ve never been a conservative but conservatism didn’t used to be this badly broken. 010
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 02/11/2025It’s not just that the Blue Jays lost the World Series - we have had weeks and weeks of tense and meaningful games and now we don’t have them anymore. It’s a big adjustment. On the other hand, my sleep schedule might now return to close to normal. Thank you for a memorable season. #BlueJays 020
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 21/10/2025It is unrealistic to expect much productivity from Canadians over the next couple of weeks or so. If in the Eastern time zone, also assume a certain amount of sleep shortage. #BlueJays 010
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 10/09/2025I think it’s all just personal. Doug hates being tied up by traffic on his route to work, so he wants to get rid of bike lanes. And he wants to be able to drive faster than the speed limit, so he doesn’t want speed cameras. 020
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 06/09/2025RIP Ken Dryden. When I was playing road hockey in the 1970s, everyone who played goal always took a break by putting his hands on top of his stick and putting his chin on top of them, the way Dryden did. And we weren’t even Habs fans. 000
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 06/08/2025The problem is with first past the post: people who don’t want Ford or the PCs - 57% in the last election - split their vote between three alternatives so the PCs won everything. Progressive parties may need to overcome their dislike of each other to provide a single alternative to voters. 010
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 25/07/2025While I’m thinking of it: in parts of Europe, cars come instantly to a stop when pedestrians make a request to cross. European pedestrians in Toronto risk getting killed at crosswalks, as the unwritten rule here is that the first car gets to go through the crosswalk when the button is pressed. 020
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 25/07/2025I have seen crossings in which the legal time window for pedestrians to start crossing the street before the countdown starts is only one or two seconds. Pedestrians are seen as an inconvenience to car traffic. 140

Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 05/05/2025Medical science and research are important. I know this from experience: I had a health issue in early 2024 that would have left me dead or incapacitated if it were not for modern medicine. The USA appears to be turning away from science and toward random opinions and authoritarian darkness. 030
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 04/05/2025It looks like Vonnegut referenced the concept of six seasons several times! Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 24/03/2025I don’t know whether someone thought that constructing a car out of straight-line parts was more “efficient” or whether this was somebody’s design preference. It looks like it’s hard to see out of and too small for a tall person to fit into. 110
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 24/03/2025On the weekend, I spotted an actual cybertruck near Yonge and Bloor. What’s weird about it to me is that the only thing round on it is the wheels - everything else is triangles or rectangles. 120
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 24/03/2025I think it was Kurt Vonnegut who said that there are six seasons, not four, each lasting two months: spring, summer, fall, locking (nature shutting down), winter, and unlocking (nature revving up). We’re in the first month of unlocking. 120
Dave Till @davetill.bsky.social · 19/03/2025What a nice day! But it’s too early in the year for this. We have angered the Winter Gods and we will be made to pay for it, probably with an equivalent really bad day in April. 020
