I love their shirts and have bought a few over the years but the printing is very low quality and comes off after a few washes, spewing yet more microplastics into the world and leaving you with a blotchy black shirt. They should just sell those and go dump some chip packets in a river to offset it.

Fellow #Canberra folks I’m going to be on ABC Canberra just after 2pm today, talking about my novel Daedalus. Tune in and hear me bang on about science fiction and cartoon physics and how birds really fly by manipulating gravity with their minds. I may even bring up James Joyce or Michael Moorcock.

I love that the brawl between Rico and Xander is to the sound of Fade Into You by Mazzy Star. But OMFG now it’s my favourite scene in any film ever. The invasion of Klendathu. It makes me cry every time it’s just so fucking good.

WTF Amazon. The paperback of Daedalus, with the RRP of $34.99 that I configured in Ingram translates to over $50 in Amazon. I suppose that’s why people create paperbacks in both. I’ve heard Amazon’s printing is not as good or as reliable as Ingram’s is. I’m getting quite an education in bookenomics.
Screen snap showing Daedalus paperback edition being way overpriced in the opinion of the author.

The German Nazis didn’t begin with camps and murder. They started with a cost of living crisis and a population desperate for a solution and any kind of hope. They blamed the Jews yes, but immigrants, gays, people of colour and more. Australia must not make the same mistake the Germans did.

Daedalus's opening line has people asking me; Why ‘immanentised’?
Why did I use that word? I go into some background on how I wrote, and rewrote an opening line that isn’t actually an opening line at all.

In Sydney to see Belle and Sebastian at the Enmore. Popped down to Australia street and popped a test print of Daedalus in. It’s draft 44 of 45 so not quite the final. The font is a bit small for some and the margins are too tight. But if you happen to be in Newtown it’s there for the taking. #books

I logged into Amazon to see how Daedalus is doing and someone had given me two stars. No review. Didn’t even read it. Then a few days later I’ve got some five star ratings. So yay. Happy again. Then I came across these reviews in StoryGraph and Reddit. It made my tiny cold heart so big and warm.
Review on StoryGraph of Daedalus.

This was unlike any other science fiction I've read. It's ambitious and sweeping, spanning time and space while telling its story from the perspective of the most advanced Al humanity has ever created.
"Daedalus" is an Al given the mission of preserving life before humanity sends it to other solar systems.
Before long, we encounter copies, other versions, and avatars of Daedalus, all working toward that mission in slightly different ways. The result is a vast daedalytic system that watches, listens, solves problems, learns to feel emotions, and eventually drains power from other universes to sustain itself.
I quite enjoyed the story. Dave Sag's debut novel is wildly ambitious, but it has some fun with itself along the way. Some of the footnotes genuinely left me smiling, while others had me thinking about the implications of choices society is making right now.
I'll be watching for more from Dave Sag. This was an enjoyable, thought-provoking, and marvelous story about humanity, told from the perspective of an intelligence of our own creation.
Show LessReview of Daedalus from someone on Reddit.

Thanks! So.... You gave some preview chapters...?
Daaaaaaamn. I was all ready for one of those awkward talks (show don't tell; here's how dialogue works) but I was on board. YES! You do weird things but by then I trusted you. Damn.
DAMN.
I have an open chat history. I am nice at times about ... mediocre stuff. BUT DAMN,
You are a big cool writer person! If this work does not get traction, that sucks. But you have it.
You have it.
