Dave Rooney 🇨🇦 supports 🇺🇦 @daverooney.dev · 21/09/2026I liked it! It's a great presentation of the realities of late 1950s defence without the nostalgia. As much as I would have loved to have seen the CF-105 produced, it wouldn't have been fully operational until the mid-60s, and we would still have had to procure aircraft for other roles anyway. 000

Dave Rooney 🇨🇦 supports 🇺🇦 @daverooney.dev · 07/09/2026We have one just sitting there in Hamilton! 😀 One of the "Team Pilots" was F/L B.R. "Bordie" Campbell. He was a good friend of my parents, growing up together in my hometown of Almonte. I believe he's also responsible for screaming over our house in a CF-104 at 500 feet & 500 knots when I was 5! 😂 210

Dave Rooney 🇨🇦 supports 🇺🇦 @daverooney.dev · 01/09/2026FYI, the US cutting off oil to Japan in mid 1941 was the final straw that convinced the Japanese to go to war with the US. Cutting off oil supplies is effectively an act of war. I don't think we want to explore how that would go. 140

Dave Rooney 🇨🇦 supports 🇺🇦 @daverooney.dev · 12/08/2026That'll be the effect, but I seriously doubt it's intentional. The same thing happened (with the same effect) in the mid-1990s with "Workforce Adjustment". It helped make the balance sheet look better, but there were long-term costs from the loss of institutional knowledge. 100

Dave Rooney 🇨🇦 supports 🇺🇦 @daverooney.dev · 28/07/2026Part of that is the deep aversion to raising taxes in order to pay for public services. Another part is the desire by certain parties to drive public services into the ground to pave the way for privatization from which they can profit. 010

Dave Rooney 🇨🇦 supports 🇺🇦 @daverooney.dev · 16/07/2026Yeah, off the top of my head I can think of 3 storms that should have been tornado-warned but weren't.
