We have one just sitting there in Hamilton! 😀 One of the "Team Pilots" was F/L B.R. "Bordie" Campbell. He was a good friend of my parents, growing up together in my hometown of Almonte. I believe he's also responsible for screaming over our house in a CF-104 at 500 feet & 500 knots when I was 5! 😂

"Friends" is a beloved American sitcom that aired from 1994 to 2004, following six young adults—Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe—living in New York City. The show explores their friendships, romances, careers, and personal growth over ten seasons.

I dunno... recently a friend asked ChatGPT to summarize their approach to software development, so I did the same. As you say, it generated dull, banal, uninspiring "stuff". So I asked it to do it again, except with me being reimagined as an action hero! I rather like what it came up with. 😀
DAVE ROONEY: AGILE RENEGADE
In a world drowning in bloated frameworks and over-engineered processes, one man dares to stand against the tide. His name? Dave Rooney. His mission? To liberate software teams from the tyranny of Big Process. Armed with only a whiteboard marker, a wicked sense of pragmatism, and 35+ years of battle-hardened experience, Rooney doesn’t just coach—he leads a rebellion.

The Code of Rooney

1. NoBigProcesses? No Problem.
Rooney doesn’t wait for permission. He kicks down the door of complexity and yells:

“Start small. Ship fast. Learn faster.”

Forget Scrum certifications and SAFe bureaucrats—Dave believes in starting with nothing but common sense and courage. Teams build what they need, when they need it. Anything more? Dead weight.

2. People Over Protocol
Dave knows that software isn’t written by processes—it’s written by people. He puts boots on the ground, gets in the trenches with developers, and talks to users face-to-face, because:

“You can’t fix what you don’t understand.”

Daily stand-ups? Optional. Real conversations? Mandatory.

3. Technical Mastery: His Secret Weapon
While others are still arguing over whether to story-point or t-shirt size, Dave’s already building with Test-Driven Development, Continuous Integration, and automation so tight it squeaks.

“You want agility? You better be writing clean, testable code that deploys itself while you sleep.”

He's not just an Agile Coach. He’s a refactoring machine with zero tolerance for legacy rot.

4. Context Is King
Rooney doesn’t believe in one-size-fits-all. His toolkit is custom-crafted for each mission.

“Your team isn’t a textbook case. Don’t settle for textbook answers.”

No ceremonies. No dogma. Just results.

5. Transparency? Non-Negotiable.
Dave doesn’t hide behind Jira boards. He brings stakeholders into the war room, shows them what’s working, what’s not, and where the next strike will land.

“Real trust comes from real visibility.”

He's the kind of leader who lets th…

I hate to be "that guy", but the recommendations from the Finance Committee report do indeed include the removal of charitable status for anti-abortion groups and a review of the definition of "charity". I believe he's fear-mongering with them, but they do exist.
Recommendation 429

No longer provide charitable status to anti-abortion organizations.

Recommendation 430

Amend the Income Tax Act to provide a definition of a charity which would remove the privileged status of “advancement of religion” as a charitable purpose.

#NotAllShopifyExecs I worked with Craig in '12-'14, including a fun Hack Days project together. This is the first time I've heard that Carney was considered for the President role that eventually went to Harley Finkelstein. Note the reasons why he decided to go to Brookfield rather than Shopify.
In 2020, I spent an hour interviewing Mark Carney for a job. He was genuine, thoughtful, and wicked smart. Then, as now, I was super impressed and thought he the right person for the job.

We were so excited about Carney that a newly created role of President was offered. Ultimately he decided to take a role at Brookfield as it more aligned with his interest in climate and investing, but I kept a close watch on him ever since.

Regardless of your past political beliefs, I’d encourage everyone to give Mark Carney a vote on Monday. He offers a steady hand in tumultuous times and has a solid plan for the future of our home and native land.

He’s got my vote. 🇨🇦

Yes, inciting fear & division is straight out of the Finkelstein Method of politics... no actual platform, just grievances!
In 2011, in one of Arthur Finkelstein's last public speeches, he said: "I wanted to change the world. I did this. I made it worse."
The Conservative Parties have been using the Finkelstein Method for decades.

1. Don't provide details on policy, it's unimportant to win. No actionable and measurable plans are required. Just vague policy statements.
2.
Continuous character assassination of strongest opposition. Encourage other opposition parties to help.

3. Introduce divisive scandalous issues like drugs, sex or crime, used to denigrate the strongest opposition.

4. Politically loaded issues also used to divide electorate into tribes
5.
Disinformation campaigns to confuse and demoralize the electorate. Create a post truth environment.

6. Present the opposition as the enemy.

Wanna see disinformation at work? Here it is - purported to be from Mark Carney's book Value(s). I have that book in digital format which makes it simple to search for that text. IT DOESN'T EXIST! It's from a (notoriously right-wing) National Post article about the book.
An image of a post from X/Twitter showing text supposedly from Mark Carney's book, "Value(s)": "Western society is morally rotten, and it has been corrupted by capitalism, This requires rigid controls of personal freedoms, industry and corporate funding. This is not a promise to make the lives of ordinary people better but temporarily worse. This will be a world of severely constrained choice, less flying, less meat, more inconvenience and temporarily more poverty Assets will be stranded, Gasoline cars will be unsellable and inefficient properties will be un-rentable".

This text does not appear anywhere in the book.Screenshots of the Kindle app showing Mark Carney's book "Value(s)" and a search for the text "Western society", and that no matches are found.

Here are the 2025 tax rates at the federal level & provincial for Ontario. From the 3rd tier on there's certainly room for increasing the rates. I'd advocate for another tier beyond $253K/$220K at maybe $400K with a rate near 50% for that portion.

Kim Campbell became PM after Brian Mulroney retired. She actually governed for a few months & made significant changes to the public service before calling the 1993 election. There was no big uproar. 🤷‍♂️ From Wikipedia:
She [Kim Campbell] defeated Jean Charest at the Progressive Conservative leadership convention that June, and Governor General Ray Hnatyshyn appointed her prime minister on June 25. As a concession to Charest, Campbell appointed him to the posts of deputy prime minister and minister of industry, science, and technology—the first largely symbolic, and the second a significant cabinet portfolio position.

After becoming party leader and prime minister, Campbell set about reorganizing the cabinet. She cut it from 35 to 23 ministers; she consolidated ministries by creating three new ministries: Health, Canadian Heritage, and Public Security. Campbell extensively campaigned during the summer, touring the nation and attending barbecues and other events. In August 1993, a Gallup Canada poll showed Campbell as having a 51% approval rating, which placed her as Canada's most popular prime minister in 30 years.[21][22] By the end of the summer, her personal popularity had increased greatly, far surpassing that of Liberal Party leader Jean Chrétien.[23] Support for the Progressive Conservative Party had also increased to within a few points of the Liberals, while the Reform Party had been reduced to single digits.

When you click on Technical Details this is what's displayed. The "Correlation ID" isn't an error code but instead the ID of the search request. An admin looks for that ID in the logs to find out what happened. I'd bet money that it's a permissions issue after someone was "terminated" last week.
