DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 12hThings I did not expect to get good at. Selling shit I would otherwise be dumping on Facebook Marketplace. 000
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 17hOf the really dumb complaints from then was somebody saying their dumpster had a dead rat by it... this is near Volunteer Park - we have dead critters around here all the time and we ALL have rats and mice, because that's what happens in the real world. 000
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 17hI always thought the garden was a good idea but got shouted down at the local meeting we had on the topic back in about 2010... weirdly the neighborhood email list was just relitigating this a few days ago because new people were trying to work out why the garden had closed. 100
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 17hMy point is the garden is where the seating should be. I’m annoyed this pushes the seating back to what is a really crowded corner. 110
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 17hThere’s a big difference between the houses in this area and the ones the other side of 19th or 15th. But sure all the people around here are stinking rich. Got it. 000
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 17hPeople are loose with kids and dogs on the corner which does not blend well with people using it as a high speed rat run from 15th at the park down to 19th. But I think the garden always made sense. 100
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 17hHard to say. The junction of 17th and Galer is a bit of a nightmare anyway with the one way turn at 17th and people hammering down the hill from 16th. I have said to the city it should be a stop but they’ve not really listened. On my part of 17th only one resident was actually vocally anti this. 100
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 18hNot sure there are any apartments near there. It’s all houses. At the time of the original complaint I think it was houses on 16th that did most of the complaining. I’ll admit it has become something of a weekend destination which can make that corner it’s on a right mess. 120
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 18hI live half a block from it and frankly I’d rather they use the back patio than hang at the front which turns and already messy corner at Galer and 17th into a complete zoo at the weekend. But I lost that fight with other neighbors over a decade ago and gave up. Also it’s f’king expensive coffee 000
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 18hTo be fair, as a neighbor of the VPC who’s been following this since it kicked off originally, the houses around that part of 17th and Galer are more like $1.5 ~ $3m :) 110
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 23hNor do they understand how easy it is to have one relatively minor thing collapse years of legal process without any warning. 010
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 05/10/2026There’s been a building issue at our Doctor and I was scheduled for an in person BP check. This has involved climbing 5 stories of stairs. That’s quite enough of a cardiac stress test for me thanks 😂🤣😂 000
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Ah different character actor. Less illustrious career. Seems to have passed quite young. 010
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Brian Blessed was a huge fixture of British TV for decades - major part in their huge I, Claudius production and a big Shakespeare actor. Not to mention he almost climbed Everest…. He is something of a legend in the UK and still alive these days. 110
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 05/10/2026But says the line ‘Gordon’s alive?’ To pretty much any Brit my age and they’ll know who you’re talking about. 010
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I went down a rabbit hole about the cast recently because it’s such a mad movie. You’ve genre movie/theatre leaders like Von Sydow and Topol, then a lump of moderately unknown Brits outside of BBC stuff and theatre and a guy who went on to be Bond… Loved it as a kid. Not sure time has been kind 220
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 05/10/2026In a new post 50 low I have pulled a muscle putting drops in my dogs ear. 000
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 05/10/2026She’s a relatively well regarded Italian actress these days and had a lot of credits before FG but I believe the problem was she didn’t speak English and learned the script more or less phonetically hence the quite peculiar delivery. She’s done lots of mostly Italian movies since. 120
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I have a Fortran 77 book which was the most expensive text book I have ever bought which isn’t even a useful paperweight in 2026. 010
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Although they might have got lost on the way to England and decided Ireland was nicer. 000
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026There will be another re.pc trip coming up and then I reckon 2-3 dump runs. We are getting down to the last stuff before we dump everything. 000
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I’m now down to the ‘what the hell do we do with this shit’ boxes like decades out of date software from when it used to come on DVDs in boxes. Open to suggestions. 100
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026The great packing continues. I’ve triaged the books. Sorta. I suspect we’ll move back with a lot less than we came with - there’s some I don’t care about that don’t give me joy and some that are painfully out of date on various topics that don’t even make good coffee table books. 200
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026As a Herts Lad I’ve been trying to think of a witty come back and failing. 010

DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Having tried and failed to explain The Hitman and Her to my better half Iwas shocked to find entire episodes online. ENTIRE EPISODES including many from Tokyo Joes Preston which sadly succumbed to entropy a few years ago. Sadly might be over stating it. youtu.be/LjIr8nuAjlE?isyoutu.beHitman & her tokyo joes preston pt 3YouTube video by denverbronco1966 000
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026We are still in Shrodingers appartment for our move so I feel this. 020
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I strongly suspect she’ll sell it. We nearly bought it a couple of times but the timing never quite worked out. 010
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 02/10/2026And Capitol Hill is excellent IMO but I have lived here for almost 20 years. The 15th Ave E neighbourhood has been awesome to live in. 010
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Shame about the timing. We have had a ludicrous deal for the last 18 years and I think the land lady will continue to be reasonable with the place. 110
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 02/10/2026But it won’t be available before Dec which I appreciate may not work. 110
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Did you discount Capitol Hill? we just gave notice and our landlady has been super reasonable given the size of house and location. 210
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 02/10/2026My understanding is that he is not necessarily entirely wrong there but it’s fairly complicated. The old rule was that while a stealth aircraft might have the physical size on radar as a bird. Birds don’t fly that fast so you could find them by looking for fast high altitude birds. 100
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Bear in mind over nearly 20 years in a 3 bed house our rent has only gone up by $1,100 and it's WAY under market rates right now. Large garden too. 000
DaveO @daveon.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Well notice given to our landlady... we moved in November 2008 - long time to be in a place, especially renting - but in our defense it has been an absolutely ludicrous deal. If you're in Seattle and don't mind an older & slightly tatty house in a killer area she'll be looking. 100
