Sunday breakfast soundtrack, and Nico is loving it. It’s prompting much high chair dancing, the girl’s got taste

Left the house at 5am. Through a combo of a very much unplanned 11 hour shift at work, shite trains and a very slow cab, I’ve just walked back through the door at 10.07pm

“It reminds us that, alongside Daft Punk and Rod Hull’s Emu, Abramovich is one of the very few figures from our post-war culture who is instantly recognisable without ever having uttered a single word in public”. Superb stuff as ever from @wsc.co.uk!

I’ve just remembered my train is at 5.23am tomorrow *sigh*

Well then, I officially have a one year old. That is quite the sentence to type….!

Morning all. Great gig last night, though there was (unsurprisingly) a sizeable 6 Music Dad crew there which is always annoying. Thankfully we managed to skillfully avoid 'em where we were!

‘Masked paramilitary group occupies crucial port’ is the headline the media would go for if it wasn’t happening in Britain.

Why the Telegraph is still considered a serious paper these days can never be justified *shrug*

HipPriest @davemercer.bsky.social · 01/09/2026

Well I half kiboshed us, in the end. Lots of positives over the first 4 games given it’s pretty much a brand new team, so they’re still gelling. Need to cut these little lapses & mistakes out sharpish though. A bit more concentration & we could easily be sitting here with 3 wins rather than 3 draws

HipPriest @davemercer.bsky.social · 01/09/2026

I cannot help being cautiously optimistic about this new Tranmere on the evidence of the first few games….

That incredibly rare moment of a quiet, peaceful morning coffee as the whole house is asleep bar me. Bliss

Big, big fan of this, some pretty brutal noise rock that I'll be grabbing on payday. To quote @riotseasonrecords.bsky.social, I can wholeheartedly agree with their call that it's for fans of Brainbombs/The Birthday Party/Unsane/The Fall. Play it loud! riotseasonrecords.bandcamp.com/album/buyers...

Annual reminder that the Community Shield used to be called the Charity Shield, but so little money actually went to charity that the government told them to either start making serious contributions or change the name. So they changed the name.

It is distinctly possible I may melt at this wedding, christ. If only it had been a shorts and cut-off dress code

HipPriest @davemercer.bsky.social · 14/08/2026

I’m 42 years old, so should know better, but cannot shake that tiny bit of pre-season optimism for Tranmere the day before it all kicks off again… *sigh*

4 hour ferry yesterday from Ireland - Pembroke, then a 3hr drive to Malvern for my mother-in-laws birthday, with a stop to charge the car. Drove back home this morning, opened the door at 10.45, back on the train at 1.30 to go to Deal for a wedding, due to arrive about 6ish. Fuck me, I need a pint

HipPriest @davemercer.bsky.social · 11/08/2026

Back to Blighty tomorrow, sadly, but a week stomping round the beauty of Cork and Kerry with the hound has been restorative beyond belief. I haven’t felt this relaxed at the end of a holiday in years, despite Nico deciding sleeping’s clearly for losers this week!

Yet there will still be a deluge of columns from the usual suspects in the lobby telling us all how well she’s really doing, we’re just in too much of a bubble to notice…. 🙄
