Getting to tell both him and his dad John how seriously Trading Standards took the toy safety and how much of the standards had Lynn's campaign work in them, was a special moment for me.

Toy safety is a weird overlap for me. Before university I worked for a public laboratory for a year. I ended up specialising in testing toys for various trading standards groups. Many years later I worked on both Watchdog and Rogue Traders with Lynns son Nick Stapleton.

These shows even changed the law. Toy safety standards were overhauled in the the mid 90s after a campaign by Watchdog presenter Lynn Faulds Wood highlighting things like choking hazards etc. These rules then got folded into european CE standards and have saved countless lives.

Same for Watchdog. Commercial broadcasters are always going to be cagey about criticising the same businesses they are courting for advertising time. Watchdog and You and Yours were a demonstrable force for good that could only be made by a BBC not beholden to advertisers.

I suspect this might be stunning with an egg white and a dusting of ground sweet cinnamon over 1/2 the glass. I don't have any eggs so cant try but this feels like a drink that wants that softer mouth feel you get from a trad sour cocktail. If anyone feels like making one, please let me know.

An apple and raisin forward version of a Between the Sheets but sweeter and softer. Definitely needs the cinnamon if only on the nose when drinking. Saline brings what would be a possibly overly sweet drink back to grown up territory.

I know what you mean but to my mind it's closer to a gimlet than a bees knees. The malic acid softens the bite of the lemon citric sharpness in a bees knees and the honey adds depth. Ive tried it with and without the orange bitters and they add the buttery note to the honey finish I love in this

Not as gin forward as you'd expect. nicely citrus but not acidic. The honey and orange bitters give an almost buttery finish. Very much a crowd pleaser, easy to drink but still with enough going on that snobs will like it too. Basically a gimlet with a richer tone, whats not to like?
