One thing I would say is don't bother with the official gamepad. It's well made like the Quickshot but doesn't feel that precise. I managed to get a Dualshock 4 working on the Spectrum (with the Sony wireless dongle) but a vintage joystick just feels nicer.

I can remember my first microswitch joystick, the Cruiser. I remember hating it and swapping it for a microswitched Quickshot (I think, it certainly had the form factor).

Yep, only 2 buttons too (which I think we're both the same fire button). This is a really nice modern version with 6 extra buttons. Windows recognises it as a gamepad.

Yep, mine lasted from my Speccy to my Atari ST. I've not opened the new one uet. Apparently it's usb so will work on loads of things.

There's a decent selection built in but it can technically play any Spectrum game off an external drive. I've got a USB drive plugged into mine with the entire Spectrum library on it - thousands of games on less than 1GB 🤣 There are instructions on the Spectrum website on how to load games.

Yep. Not quite as good/bad as the original (which I still have to compare) but it looks and weighs identical apart from the usb and hdmi ports at the back and lack of Sinclair badging.

I posted a pic in reply to someone earlier of my uncle Mat, a showband singer in the 60s and 70s. Thought it'd be fun to Whatsapp my mum and show her. She told me about Mat's sister, who married & moved to England before I was born so I never knew her. She was a much bigger deal apparently.

We also had the swings chained up on Sundays here, along with an alarming love for shite (as opposed to good) Country music. On top of that we had Showbands, my own uncle being one of the top local performers. He made records and everything.
